Hundred ot such tips, by phone, letter and telegram, are handled by his Washington office every week and each is thoroughly checked for its background and veracity. From these hundreds each week only & few, following tedious,- back' breaking efforts, merit broadcast by Mr. Lewis. But those have made headline news, and, more often than not, have promoted long congressional Investigations, subsequent changes in the' law ot the land and, in some instances, federal prosecution. . A case in point is his current presentation of facts concerning shipments of atomic energy materials to Russia In 1943 and 1944. This story was "broken" by Mr. Lewis on his broadcast Friday, Dec. 2. Since then, Mr. Lewis' principle witness, former Air Force Major George Racey Jordan, has testified before the House Un-American Activi ties committee and the Joint Congressional Atomic Energy, com mittee. Both committees are probing the matter thoroughly.
