ALL'S READY FOR TURKEY SHOW The Rolletta Roller rink on E. 2nd Ave. So. hat been
busy place recently at Show Manager George L. Routledge'i staff prepared for today's open
ing of the Northwestern Turkey Show, Inc. With a record number of entries pouring in Tuesday,
workers were kept on the run placing the birds in the 300 coops designed to hold one to
three turkeys. The show opened this morning with top turkeys and poultry experts judging
birds in both live and dressed classes. Admission to the three. dy event is free and the pub
lie is invited to attend. Picture above left shows three customers calling on the Crown Mills
booth presided over by Pierre "Pete" Tragjio, traveling representative. Serving coffee and
waffles to show-goers, Pete mixes his batter in king-size lots, using 20 pounds of flour and
a doien and a half eggs per batch. Sampling his wares are Homer W. Grow, FFA adviser,
Helen Routledge Sparks of Routledge Hatchery, and Show Manager George L. Routledge.
Picture below left shows the four-man process facing every turkey to vie for show honors.

dessert. Serve your Christmas
fruit cake with wonderful array

advance they'll keep beautifully
for several weeks.
Both the cake and the sauces
are perfect for gifts. The cake',
may he baked in aluminum foil
containers and then simply wrap
ped with ribbon. The sauces can
be packed in covered containers
the latter to double for refrig
erator jars later on.
. CHRISTMAS FRUIT CAKE
Ingredients: 1 cup mincemeat,
3 medium -sized apples (peeled
and cored), 1 cup raisins, 3-4 cup
candled cherries, 2 ounces citron,
1 cup orange juice, 2 cups sifted
all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon bak
ing powder, 1-2 teaspoon salt, 1
teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon
ginger, 1-2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1
cup sugar. 2 eggs (well beaten),
1-2 cup molasses, 1-3 cup butter
or vitaminized margarine (melt
ed), 2 teaspoons sherry flavoring,
2 teaspoons brandy flavoring.
Method: Put mincemeat, ap
ples, raisins, cherries, and citron
through a coarse grinder and stir
In 1-2 cup of the orange juice.
Mix and sift i the flour, baking
powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger,
nutmeg and sugar. Mix the eggs
and molasses together; heat the
remaining 1-2 cup orange juice
and add; gradually beat in the
melted butter or margarine. Add
sifted dry ingredients and stir
until smooth. Fold in lruit and
flavorings. Pour into 2 well
greased glass or metal 1-quart
size loaf or round pans. Bake in
a moderate (350 degrees F.) oven
for 1 1-2 to 2 hours.
- ORANGE CITRON SAUCE
v Ingredients: 2tabiespoom but
ter or vitaminized margarine, 1
cup confectioners' sugar, 2 table
spoons finely chopped citron,
1 tablespoon orange juice, 1-4 tea
spoon orange flavoring, dash ot
salt. . .......
Method: Cream' the' butter or
margarine; gradually blend in
the sugar; add the citron, orange
juice, flavoring and salt and mix
well."
HOLIDAY SAUCE
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons but
ter or vitaminized margarine, 1
cup confectioners' sugar, 2 ta
blespoons brandy flavoring, dash
of salt.
, Method: Cream butter or mar
garine; gradually blend in sug
ar, flavoring, and salt and beat
well.
CARAMEL WALNUT SAUCE
Ingredients: 1 1-2 cups sugar,
1-2 ' cup butter or vitaminized
margarine (melted) dash of salt,
14 cup finely chopped walnut
meats.
Method: Stir sugar in saucepan
over low heat until melted; add
butter or margarine and salt, and
stir In walnuts. i
