ogfl(o 6 Tht News-Review, Roieburg, Rocky Graziano Decisions Home CLEVliLAKD, Vee. 7. CT) Rocky Graziano, once the kayo king of the middleweights, today shrugged off a rusty perform ance against George (Sonny) Home and growled, "You can't knock 'em all out. Some nights you can't knock any. body out" Rocky meant his disgust, too. He won his third straight 10 round decision over Horne last night at the Cleveland News' 24th annual Christmas fund show. But he got socked pretty hard In the last five rounds. Graziano's trainer, Whltey Blra stein, wasn't so pessimistic. "You did all right, considering It was only your second fight in Just about a year," consoled Blnv stein. "You needed that one un der your belt" Rocky's last fight was a kayo over another hot title contender, Charley Fusari, In ihe 10th round. In the third round, Home's face took on a silly expression when Graziano slammed his Jaw with a hard right. He started sinking. Again In the fifth, the same thing happened. But In both cases the bell clanged In time. The life started to ooze out of a. " a. ' Cleveland Buys Portland Ace, j Hal Saltzman BALTIMORE, UP) Bill Veeck, dynamic ex-president of the Cleveland club is gone but the Indians are still stealing the show from the rest of the major league clubs. : While the others were feinting and fencing but apparently ac complishing nothing in their ef forts to swing the first big trade at the minor league convention, the Indiana came up with one of the finest pitching prizes in the minors. ..... He Is Hal Saltzman, 24-year-old righthander who won 23 and lost 13 for the Portland club of the Pacific Coast league. General Manager Hank Greenberg of the Indians, who announced the pur chase Tuesday night, said Saltz man cost Cleveland five players besides an undisclosed amount of cash. He estimated the deal re presented a $100,000 purchase. Saltzman, a University of Ore gon product who had only a year and a half of professional base ball experience before Joining the Beavers last year, Is general ly regarded as the top pitching prospect on the coast. He pitched 22 complete games last year and fanned 120 In 276 innings. To get the youngster, the In dians had to top the offers of three rival big league clubs. Gneenberg said both New York clubs and the Chicago White Sox were after him. In addition to about $30,000 In cash, the Indians gave up outfielders Hal Peck and Luis Marquez from their own roster. Atlas, who defeated Dusette here two weeks ago when the Frenchman was unable to return for the third and deciding fall, demanded a fat guarantee to meet Dusette again. '1 proved my abil iv to defeat the Frenchie In a feat of strength and what more does he want," the muscular and conceited matman said. Actually, Dusette won the first fall with a full-nelson and had the same fall clamped on when Atlas ran both men into- and through the ropes. Both tumbled into the ringside, but Atlas was on top and Dusette crashed on his head and shoulders. Dusette was barely able to regain the mat after a 19-second count and was an easy victim with a full nelson. Dusette says that he is certain he can defeat Atlas "in a feat of strength or in any other style of wresllng and, I'll prove It," the Frenchman said. Both men boast amazing strength in their should er and arms and for that reason both specialize on full-nelsons. Dusette, however, also employs a headlock and in re-cent weeks has developed and perfected an un usual leg hold which he might use against Atlas this week. The match was a thriller here two weeks ago and Douglas county followers are expected to pack the arena to near capacity. For that reason fans are urged to make early ringside reserva tions at Powell's.
