Mr. Radlch Is an official of the Columbia River Packers assn. in Astoria. He Is a former resident and manager of the C.R.P.A. plant here. Jim Elson of the 8th grade will spend the weekend at Corvallls with his brother, David Elson, who is a student at Oregon State college. Jim will celebrate his birthday that day. Mrs. Richard Riggs, Mrs. Meryl Wahl, Mrs. Barker and Mrs. Carol Ellison attended the Job's Daughters meeting at Myrtle Creek last Wednesday evening. Next Wednesday evening, Dec. 7, Martha Elhart, grand guar dian of Job's Daughters, will make her official visit at the Masonic hall in Oakland at 7:30 o'clock. All parents, Masons and Eastern Star members are In vited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Urbln of Umpqua spent the Thanksgiving holidays at Gait, Calif., with rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. Williams of Cambria, Calif., parents of Mrs. Urbin, joined the party there and returned to Umpqua with Mr. and Mrs. Urbln and expects to spend a week visiting in this vicinity before returning home. The district convention of Re bekah lodge No. 11 will be held in Sutherlin, Dec. 8, at the Amer ican Legion, hall. This convention is open to all Rebekahs whether they belong in this district or not.Mrs. Juanita Holgate, chair man, announces that all plans are nearly completed and that she hopes to have a good at tendance. Mrs. Moon Mullins left Sun day night for Tacoma, Wash., where she was called by the death of her uncle. Mr. Sylwester of Rose burg, motored to Myrtle Creek Sunday evening where Lutheran services were held in the Grange hall for residents of the Trl-Clty area. The Rev. W. A. Sylwester is working together with Pastor Graef to advance Lutheran work Apathy In Diphtheria Outbreaks Draws Warning PORTLANP, Dec. 1 UP) A warning against puDiic apainy in the ourrent outbreaks of diph theria in Jackson and Yamhill counties was issued yesterday by a state medical official. Dr. Samuel B. Osgood, state epidemologist, said the 27 case3 in the two counties the past two months and the loss ot six lives should be answered with inv munization of children. He said "virulent, highly fatal diphtheria is still with us and we cannot relax proven. . .proced ures that have been known and practiced in Oregon for many years." He urged use of anti-toxin for immunization ana tola parents to follow this with "booster shots'' annually from Infancy through tne elementary scnool years. in that area.
