Answer of the defendants to
the plaintiffs' complaint has
caused a transfer of courts in
the case George A. Binder and
Orpha E. Binder, vs. L. E. Moon
ey and Cecelia C. Mooney.
In the initial complaint, plain
tiffs demanded Judgment for re
stitution ard possession or pro
perty located west of Drain

Lessors' ranch, alleging that de
fendants' had not fulfilled terms
of contract in leasing the pro
perty. Answer of the defendants,
which raises an equitable defen
se, states that plaintiffs did not

The case has been transferred
to circuit court from the justice
court of Drain.
A second money suit filed in
circuit court is State Industrial
Accident commission vs. Edgar
R. Eittrelm, doing business as
Club 99 or the Steak House.
Plaintiff demands judgment
for payment of $109.96, allegedly
due, plus interest on the sum of
$81.94. Plaintiff also asks that a
lien placed against property of
defendant be declared valid.

Arrest Of Four
The following arrests have
been reported by Sheriff O. T.
"Bud" Carter:
John Don Kenny, 46, Chemult,
charged with larceny by bailee,
was released upon posting bail
of $1,000 Floyd Fred Jones, 32,
Camas Valley, charged with de
frauding an innkeeper, was re
leased when he posted bail of
$200.
Albert Aaron Rex, 39, Empire,
charged with issuing checks with
not sufficient funds, was released
Nov. 23 after posting ball of $1,
000. Mrs. Moe Ekestrand, 51, Myr
tle Creek, arrested by city police,
was charged with disorderly con
duct She was later released into
the custody of her husband.
John Mark Terry Elliott, 26,
Eugene, is being held in the coun
ty jail on a charge of being drunk
on a public highway.
DILLARD METHODIST
YOUNG HOLD MEETING
Methodist Youth Fellowship of
Dillard church met Sunday
evening for the Bible lesson "The
Message For All." This was led
by Wanda Wagler who pointed
out that there should be no pre
judice against other persons or
their religion.
A box social was planned for
Dec. 10 at the Dillard church
at 6 p.m. Among future plans
was a recreational period at 3
o'clock Sunday afternoon when
the group will play such games
as volleyball and pingpong.
Leader for the next meeting
will be Sylvia Hill with a spec
ial feature by Colleen Cole. .

WOMEN PLAN HOLIDAY
PROJECTS AT MEETING
The Junior Division of the First
Christian church made plans for
the Christmas project when they
met Tuesday night at the home
of Mrs. Earl Bridgess with Mrs.
Leonard Tyler in charge.
The division will send bed
spreads to the Beaverton home
for the aged. The local Christ-
home of Mrs. Beryl Gilpin with
Christmas gift exchange the eve
ning of Dec. 20.
Mrs. Kenneth Knox had charge
of devotions and a Thanksgiving
program was presented by Mrs.
Jennie Nesseth with Dorothy
Blanchard and Elsie Coffell as
sisting in reading of scriptures,
poems and songs.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Bridgess with Mrs. Mary
Ellen Eaton and Mrs. Anna Cop
pie as co-hostesses to Helen Gal
lant, Jane Stephens, Elsie Cof

MARY MARTHA CLUB
MEETS AT CHURCH
The Mary-Martha Club of the
Sutherlin Christian church met
last Friday at the church. The
Thanksgiving theme was carried
out in the decorations, which con
sisted of a white arch with words
inscribed, "Thanks Be To God,"
with a picture of Christ in the
background, and a small cross
before the arch. Mrs. Whitford
arranged the motif.
The devotional and business
meeting was called to order by
the president, Mrs. Barnes.
Mrs. Whitford gave the devo
tional lesson, using as her theme,
"Friendship Demonstrated." The
Scripture reading was from
James 2:14-20. Mrs. Whitford
also gave the prayer.
A report was read from an
Alaskan missionary and plans
were made for a Christmas of
fering for the Christian Old Folks
Home at Beaverton.
The president appointed a nom
inating committee for new offi
cers of the group for the ensu
ing year.
Members present were Mrs.
Jean Barnes, Mrs. Effie Dickens,
Mrs. Rilla Johnson, Mrs. Doro
thy Longbrake, Mrs. Grace Pope,
Mrs. Minnie Abeene, Miss Ethel
Manning. Mrs. Bertha Sanders,
Mrs. Leta Whitford. Mrs. Leta

P.N.G. CHRISTMAS
PARTY TO BE HELD
WEDNESDAY EVENING
. The P.N.G. annual Christmas
party will be an event of Wed
nesday evening at the I.O.O.F.

Plans were made for the an
nual Christmas dinner for mem
bers and their families to be held
Dec. 14. at six-thirtv o'plock at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
Reese, at which time gifts will
be exchanged and Pollyanna
names will be revealed.
The door prize was won by
Mrs. Sheets with game prizes
going to Mrs. June Stlltner and
Mrs. Lena Pfaff. A lovely pink
and blue shower was given Mrs.
Bernardine Edwards.
Mrs. Pfaff, assisted by her two
daughters, Neva and Allison, and
her mother, Mrs. Ida Allison,
served delicious refreshments at
the tea hour to Mrs. Mae Sinsley
and Mrs. Freddie Sheets, guests;
Mrs. Bernardine Edwards, Mrs.

The Umpqua School associa
tion will hold the regular month
ly meeting at the schoolhouse
Friday, Dec. 2. There -will be an
apron and fancy work sale to
raise money for the children's

and other entertainment is plan
ned for the evening.
All residents of the community

AT FAIR OAKS HOME
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Baumgard
ner of Fair Oaks, east of Suther
lin entertained at their home last
Saturday evening. Guests were
members, of a newly organized
class of young people of the
Christian church.
Games and visiting were en
joyed till a later hour,- after
which refreshments were served.
The room was decorated with
bowls of autumn fruit, autumn
leaves and small .turkeys to car
ry out the Thanksgiving motif.
VOTERS ASSEMBLY
MEETING AND SOCIAL
IS SUCCESSFUL AFFAIR
The Voters Assembly met in
the auditorium of St. Paul's Luth
eran church Sunday evening and
outlined the budget for the com
ing year, which was adopted by
the group.
A social hour followed in the
parish house, at which time a
light supper was served by the
wnmon, of the congregation. .
The serving table was very
lovely with a white cloth and
centered with a bouquet of gold
colored chrysanthemums from
the garden of Mrs. E. W. Carter.
Mrs. Jack Leonard was in
charge of the coffee. Pie, sand
wiches and coffee were served.
