City Herald had a flock of tele
grams and telephone calls over
the weekend but no comment on
a court restraining order pre
venting the publishing of an ar
ticle dealing with a nearby low
cost housing project.
Lee saiu ne would wunnoia
comment until after a court hear
ing tomorrow. The order was is
sued Friday.
A construction company
charged the article, the last of a
scries of four, might have an ad
verse effect on a pending court
action. The firm has brought a
$100,000 damage suit against the
Herald for the article on the proj
ect already printed. The articles,
the company charged, contained
"untrue and damaging statements."

proved the construction of addi
tions to the stadium and the Stu
dent Union building. The approval
Is subject to bids being within the
$3,000,000 to be available.
The board authorized drafting
of plans for a $2,500,000 bond is
sue. There Is $500,000 available
from university funds for the
Union building. Each project Is
estimated to cost $1,500,000.
A call for bids was authorized
for the stadium addition. It will
increase the seating capacity to
55,000 from the present 40,000.
More than 20,000 seats would be
under cover. The addition will be
a covered upper-deck grandstand
over part of the south side of the
stadium.

equipment in such manner as to the

For the purpose of raising the neces
sary funds to construct said municipal
building and to purchase street main
tenance equipment the Common Coun
cil is authorized and empowered to
issue and sell bonds of the City of
Oakland, Oregon bearing Interest not to
exceed 4la per annum and in an
amount not to exceed $22,000.00. The
bonds hereby authorized shall be in
such sums and In such denominations
and shall be payable In principal at
such time or times as the common Coun
cil ordinance may determine, such time
not to exceed twenty i20 years. All
bonds hereunder shall be deemed ns
current and shall not have priority
as to each other and shall be desig
nated as general Improvement bonds
of the City of Oakland.
The Common Council is hereby au
thorized and directed to levy a tax
annually In addition to all other taxes
authorized by the Charter to pay the
bonds as the same become due, and to
provide a sinking fund for the pay
ment of said bonds at maturity and to
pay said bonds at any tinte therein
authorized. The indebtedness authorized
by this charter amendment is In addi
tion to all other indebtedness of said
city already incurred or authorized and
Is not to be considered as affected by
any limit of indebtedness in said Char
