Smith en tertained at a delightful dinner Saturday evening at their home. Covers were placed at an at tractively appointed table for: Mr. and Mrs. I-. W. Plttam. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Wllkerson and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The Masonic Tempe was filled to capacity Saturday night when Roseburg chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star honored two of Its members: Leila Wlm berly, Associate Grand Conduct ress of the Grand Chapter; and Alda Williams, Grand Represen tative of the Province of Sas natchewan. About thirty official members of the Grand Chapter were here from all over the state. Frances Ellison, worthy ma tron, presided In the East. The program opened with the escort of the Worthy Grand Matron, Edna Throne, and the Worthy Grand Patron, Leslie Bass. Then the conductresses escorted the honored members, Leila Wimber ly and Alda Williams, who were presented and seated In the East. Other distinguished guests seat ed in the East were: Faye Am brose, Lorena McNair, Catherine Felger, and lima Thum, Past Grand Matrons of the Grand Chapter. Judge Carl Wlmberly, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wlmberly Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wlmberly, and R. D. Williams, families of the honor ed members were Introduced. After the flag escort a wel come to all those present was given by the worthy matron. The worthy patron announced the program. The Eastern Star choir In pale green evening dresses, sang the following numbers under the direction of R. Cloyd Riffe and accompanied by Lois Stewart: "The Star," "Four Leaf Clover," dedicated to Alda Williams, 'Through the Years," dedicated to Leila Wimberly, and "Memor ies." A radio television skit with Star members depicting the different events in the lives ot Leila Wimberly and Alda Will iams was presented. Ray Hamp ton was the announcer and Cloyd Riffe played background music. The events portrayed were: birth announcements, school days, graduations, weddings and worthy matrons. The spotlights were turned on the two honored members in the East to show how they look today. The Courtesy Girls gave an addendum using various colored balloons and at the close they escorted Leila Wimberly and Alda Williams into a heart for mation and presented each with a guest book bearing the signa tures of all those attending the occasion. The following responded with short talks when called upon: Edna Throne, Worthy Grand Matron; Leslie Bass, Worthy Grand Patron; Catherine Felger, Committee member of the Gen eral Grand Chapter and Past Grand Matron; Lorena McNair, Past Grand Matron; Alice Robin son, Grand Conductress; Buelah Faber, mcmber"of traveling flags committee of Grand Chapter; Bertha Burton, Grand Represen tative of North Carolina; Leila Wlmberly and Alda Williams. At the close of the responses, Irene McKlnley, Grand Organist, was asked to whistle several numbers accompanied by Myrtle Burr, chapter organist. The guests were served from two beautifully decorated tea tables, one in the dining room and one in the reception room. The latter table was covered with a lace table cloth made by the late Marie Flint McCall and given to the chapter. The can dalebra and candle sticks had been presented to Mrs. McCall by the White Shrine and Eastern Star at the close of her year In each organization. Those serving at the tea tables were, Mesdnmes Myrtle Kent, Anne Wimberly, Ana Cordon, Helene Wlmberly, Moda Whip ple, Mary Marshall, Florence Hercher and Nclle Motchen bachen Sunday morning at 9:30 a lovely breakfast was served in the dining room to the out of town guests, past matrons, past patrons and officers of the Rose burg Chapter. The tables were beautifully decorated with gourds, fruit and autumn leaves. Singing and visiting were enjoy ed. YONCALLA CIVIC CLUB ELECTS NEW OFFICERS Mrs. Annie Kruse was elected president of the Yoncalla Civic c'ub at a recent meeting. Mrs. Louisa Cains will serve as first vice-president; Mrs. Fred Kruse, second vice-president; Mrs. Olive McKee, secretary and Mrs. Dora Banner, treasurer. Sponsored by the Yoncalla Civ ic club. Mrs. Kruse will prepare and write a book celebrating the centennial, honoring early set tlers who came to this vallev In the 1S50. Plans are already started, under the auspices of the Yoncalla Saddle club, for a three- day celebration July 2, 3 and 4, Historical material Is being col lected and this celebration will be the largest event Yoncalla has sponsored In many years. Carter on Harvard avenue Tuesday evening. Mrs. Roy Entler was co-hostess. Large bouquets of chrysanthe mums were used about the rooms and dessert supper was served from small tables with similar fall flowers forming the center pieces. The business meeting was con ducted by the club president, Mrs. M. C. Cassel. Reports were given on the ceremonial held re cently in Portland when the Su preme queen made her official visit. Among those attending from Roseburg were Mrs. Roy Han- ford, Mrs. David layior, mrs. L. Powers, Mrs. M. C. Cassel, Mrs. George K. Quine, and Mrs. Ed Row. Plans were completed for the Christmas party to be held at the Country club December 13 with Mrs. M. B. Green and Mrs. W. H. Carter in charge of arrange ments. BUSINESS WOMEN MAKING PLANS FOR 20TH ANNUAL DANCE Plans are oelng rounded out for the 20th annual Thanksgiving dance to be held at the Rose hure armorv Thanksgiving night, Nov. 24 at 0 o'clock by the Busi ness and Professional Woman's club. Co-chairmen of the affair are Stella Spencer and Laura lies as sisted by a large number of the members of the local club. Tickets are available from club members. Music for the occasion will be furnished by Bruce Gilley and his orchestra. The ticket committee includes Gladys Foley and Mary Chap man. Decorations will be in charge of V. Vivian Logsdon, chairman; Ruby Widlng, Stella Spencer, Minnie Clark, Bertha Shrum, Hazel Smith, Ingrid An derson, Nancy Setterburg, Kath ryn Lockwood, Iris Spring and Alvia Wetherell. RHOADS ENJOYS EIGHTY-NINTH BIRTHDAY AT ART AND E. CLUB Mrs. A. Rhoads celebrated her eighty-ninth birthday at the meeting of the Roseburg Art and Embroidery Wednesday after noon at the home of Mrs. George Cluck on Umpqua avenue. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Earl Rhoads, was a guest and others enjoying the occasion with Mrs. Cluck Included Mrs. H.. Snyder (a daughter of Mrs. Rhoads); Mrs. Zclla Miller, Mrs. Glenn Cox, Mrs. A. D. IS ENTERTAINED AT ALL-DAY MEETING , The Lazy Daisy Sewing club enjoyed a delightful all -day meeting Thursday at the home of Mrs. Floyd Otterson. MID-WEEK BIBLE CLASS HAS INTERESTING FTERNOON MEETING The Mid-Week Bible class of St. Paul's Lutheran church met at the parish house Thursday aft ernoon with Mrs. R. Kaine and Mrs. Louis Wilson acting as host esses. Plans were completed for the fancy work and food sale to be held at the I'mpqua Valley Hardware store Friday, Decem ber 2. The next meeting will be a Christmas party at the home of Mrs. M. Reitmann on the Cal kins road. Members and friends are invited. PAST MATRONS' CLUB PLANS CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR DECEMBER The Past Matrons' Club met at the home of Mrs. Sam. J. Shoe maker on Monday evening No vember 7th for a 7:30 dessert supper. JUDD MARRY ON THURSDAY MORNING Constance (Connie) Sumner, daughter of Father and Mrs. Wil liam Blaker of St. Helens, for merly of Roseburg, became the bride of James E. J u d d, son of Mrs. Emily Judd of this city, at a quiet wedding at ten o'clock Thursday morning, Nov. 3, at the First Presbyterian church. Dr. Morris H. Roach per formed the ceremony in the pres ence of the immediate families of the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Loomis were the attendants. Mr. and Mrs. Judd will make their home on Riverside Drive in Laurelwood. Mr. Judd is a well known Roseburg business man, being associated with the Judd Furniture company, which was founded here by his parents. MR. AND MRS. Miss Amorde is fashion co ordinator and a model for Meier and Frank. Roseburg, having made her home here for a number of years. With her husband their two daughters; they reside on East Lane street.
