Future Citizens
Must Be Taught
More Of World
- IEd. Note.' This is the last of
a series ' of articles by Roseburg
school principals on American Edu.
cation Week).
By EARL LADD
We hear more and more each
day about what we should do in
education tomorrow. I feel that
we should spend more time In
opening a window of learning to
day, so that the children will lie
able to better meet their prob
lems of tomorrow.
The philosophy of the Roseburg
school is to encourage and assist
each pupil to successfully attain
efficiency In the fundamental
processes ol reading, writing,
arithmetic, reasoning, good
health habits, and in the develop
ment of social responsibility lead
ing to successful citizenship in
our democratic society. ,
We are working to achieve
these ideals, and we wish to take
this opportunity . to thank the
church and the home which are
the other two great institutions
that are helping us to reach this
goal.
The citizens of the future are
going to have to know more
about the world than their pre-
ueuessurs. mis is an mescapaoie
fact, and through the cooperation
of the church, the home, and the
school we will achieve this, by
impressing upon each pupil that
he or she Is a citizen of a great
country, wnose greatness de
pends on his or her living suc
cessfully; and u we work to ac
complish this, the school of to
morrow will meet responsibilities
along with the other two great
institutions, because the children
of today will be putting into prac
tice tnose meals mat we are
striving to teach. The big ques
tion is: Are we keeping the win
dow open?
