Girls Trained
In Baby Sitting
Junior high school girls, rang
ing In ages from 13 to 16 years,
have just completed a three
weeks' course In babv sitting.
Mrs. Eleanor Russell, in whose
home economics classes the
course was conducted, said the
approximate 125 girls were fclvcn
special instructions to quality
them to care for children.
A list of the girls who will be
available upon call is now on file
at the Junior high office, and per
sons desiring girls to care for
their children may contact the
school, said Mrs. Russell.
The girls arbitrarily decided
upon a rate of 35 cents an hour
up to midnight, with 50 cents
thereafter. However, thev felt
Uhey should be given extra con
sideration II tney take on addi
tional duties, such as cleaning
work or doing the dishes.
Babies were brought into the
classroom, and the girls were
given instructions as to sleeping
and eating habits, the "do's and
don'ts" for babies, how to put
them to bed and to keep thein
quiet, proper toys and other
training.
The class was conducted early,
both to offer a service to the
community and to permit the
girls to earn a little money of
their own during the school year.

from George Patterson of Patter
son's bakery, 500 live turtles ar
rived by air irom Louisiana yes
terday and were delivered to Goet-
tels. ine turtles will be given
to children at Patterson's on Sat
urday from 11 to 12. Last week
many children were disappoint
ed when the supply of turtles ran
out during the grand opening of
Patterson's new bakery at Sykes
and Short streets.

John Gates, editor of the Dally Worker and one of 11 national
Communist Party leaders recently convicted by a Federal Jury,
will, face reporters for a press interview via the Mutual-Don
Lee microphone on "Meet the Press." (Saturday 8:30-9 p. m.)
Bill Henry will be the moderator for the Interview. The re
porter's panel will consist of May Craig, of the Portland, Me.,
Herald-News; I. F. Stone, Washington columnist of the Dally
Compass, N. Y.; Louis Lautier, Atlanta, Ga., Daily World; and
Lawrence Spivak, editor, American Mercury Magazine.
HUNTER MAY LOSE EYE

of shot from a pheasant hunter's
gun may have cost Dale Cherry,

eyes, It was reported here.
The accidental shot, fired from
approximately 60 yards by Mike
Hoff, also Baker, struck Cherry
in the left eye. The men were
hunting over the weekend near
Ontario. Cherry is hospitalized
here.
