Wed., Nov. 9, 1949 The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore, 11 MOSCOW OT) A top Russian scientist reports the Soviet sci entists '.n the past year have dis covered hitherto unknown char acteristics of radiation from atomic nuclei. This was only one of a number of scientific discoveries claimed for Russian physicists and astronomers by Sergei Vavllov, president of the Academy of Sci ences of the U. S. S. Vote Fraud Convictions In Missouri Sustained WASHINGTON, Nov. 9.-OB The Supreme court Monday in effect upheld the vote fraud con victions of two election workers in the 1946 Missouri Democratic primary the contest in which President Truman successfully fought the renomination bid of Rep. Roger C. Slaughter. The court action consisted of an order refusing to review the cases , of Morris Klein, a Demo cratic precinct captain in Kan sas City, and by Harry Burke, former captain who was displac ed by Klein. They were convict ed on charges of returning illegal votes In the election. Mr. Truman urged the nomi nation of Enos Axtell for the congressional seat held by Slaugh ter. Axtel won, but was defeated In the general election by Albert L. Reeves Jr., Republian.
