by vote of the people of the City of

subdivision 33 to Section 2. Article 4
the following: "33 That the Common
Council of the City of Oakland. Ore
gon is hereby authorized to construct
a municipal building to house the city
offices, library, flrehall and city Jail
and to purchase street maintenance
equipment in such manner as to Ihe
common council may seem advisable.
For the purpose of raising the neces
sary funds to construct said municipal
building and to purchase street main
tenance equipment ihe Common Coun
cil is authorized and empowered to
lsue. and sell bonds of the Citv of
Oakland, Oregon bearing interest not to
exceed 4'a',,. per annum and In an
amount not to exceed $22,000.00. The
bonds hereby authorized shall be in
such sums end in such denominations

A HUGE TRUCKLOAD of big logs are shown in the upper picture as they are dumped with a splash into the pond at the
Dillard mill of the Roseburg Lumber company. Througnout the summer months a maximum of 187 truck loads arrived and
was dumped in one day.
These togs came from many different localities. The lumber company not only employs its own large fleet of carriers,
which haul chiefly from its own woods; but contracts with any number of independent logging and trucking outfits for addi
tional supply.
After an indeterminate storage in the pond or in the cold decks, as the case may be, the logs are hauled up the chutes
to the big head rigs and converted there, and beyond there by more specialized saws and much intricate mechanical
equipment, into finished lumber, ready to be dried and shipped via adjacent rail facilities to wholesale markets. (Story
