The children played several games and enjoyed quiz game, atter which scenic slides were shown. Refreshments of popcorn, cup cakes and punch were served. The table and room were artis tically decorated in the Hallow een motif. South was the theme of the cos tume party held October 28, by the Wetomachlck Camp Fire Gills at the Winston Community building. Traditional Halloween spirits were present In both dec orations and costumes. One wall showed an eerie graveyard ghost scene; another was a picket fence, complete with grinning pumpkin faces, black cats and bats. The buffet table carried out the Halloween theme. Refreshments were prepared and served by the Camp Fire Girls. Each girl in the group had as a guest a non-Camp Fire Girl. Also were invited three guests from the "Linger Longer Club" who sponsor the fjroup. They were Mrs. Bessie Wilken, presi dent; Mrs. Donelda Trobaugh and Mrs. Cleta Callahan. HAM DINNER TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 4TH At a recent meeting of the Elk head Home Economics club, plans were made to hold a ham dinner at the hall, Nov. 5th at one dollar a plate. Mike Mansfield (D-Mont) Monday turned down President Truman's offer to appoint him as an assistant secretary of state in charge of the department's infor mation servicev Mansfield was asked to succeed George V. Allen as head of the "Voice of America" and other de partment cultural and informa tional programs. Allen has been named ambassador to Yugoslavia. Mansfield announced at the White House that he had decided "with deep regret" that he could not take the job. He said he felt his first duty was to remain in Congress.
