India is rich in rupees, Britain owes her a fortune in pounds sterling, but she is short of dollar credits. Nehru has more than one thins in mind. He is appraising the American standard of prosperity, and probably Judging now much of it would be practicable and de sirable for his country. His tour brought him here last night for a three day visit. The Indian statesman is a bit paternal in his love of India and his people. He sees no rea son why they should not be un titled to the best. He has ex perienced, now, the bounty that Americans enjoy. There can be little doubt that he will go home grimly determined that if In dians work for it, they can build a comparable economy and that they shall work for it. Nehru is a stubborn, never-give-up worker with a great ca pacity for firing enthusiasm. He is an impatient man, but a prac tical one. Through most of his adult Hie he has been a man in a hurry. He explained: There Is so much to do that every moment of his life must count. First he was working to free the people from British rule. Now that they are independent, he is working to free them from poverty and to win for them a place among the leading nations In the world. In his younger years he Is 59 he always ran up stairs. He does not enjoy resting now, and usually sleeps only a few hours Nehru probably is ' the most practical idealist you could meet.
