Laurance home at Dillard and escaped with S75 belonging to Mermin Ratley, who rooms there. The loot was all in silver and currency. Ratley had been saving the money for his Christ mas shopping for his parents, who live in California The house was entered while 710 one was at home. State police are invest igating the case. To Portland Hospital Shirley , Clayton, who lives alone in Dillard, was stricken with paralysis and found help less by a neighbor and taken to the Roseburg hospital for medi cal attention. It has been decided to remove him to a Portland hospital for an operation as soon as arrangements can be made. He is a brother of Elsie Clayton, well-known gardener in the Dil lard district. Suffering Blood Poisoning Mrs. Ruth Laurance is suffer ing from blood poisoning, which, it is reported, occurred from a bug bite on her face. The allotment Is five cents per mile, with a maximum of $15 for any student in any one month according to the policy estab lished by the Douglas County Non-High School board. Students ere required to walk or provide their own transpor tation up to two miles. Students or parents eligible for this allowance should ask the principal of the high school they attend for application blanks, or they may be obtained at the county school superintendent's of fice. Woodworking Club Formed By 4-H At Tenmile "Woodchuck Woodworkers" was the name chosen by 17 boys who met recently at the home of their leader, Mrs. Howard Gray of Ten mile, to organize a new 4-H wood working club. They also organized a cooking club and named it "The Breakfast Club." Mrs. Walter Coats showed the boys how to countersink wood screws and putty them over. She also explained the manufacture of sandpaper and told how to buy fine or coarse paper by the num bers and letters on the back. She showed the boys the work done by her grandson, Keith Chris topherson, when he was in grade school. Each member is asked to bring a squared board, one inch x 11 inches x 14 inches to the next meeting Nov. 3. Officers and members of the club include Conrad Lakey, presi dent; Sammy Long, vice presi dent; Jimmie Page, secretary; Virgil Mills, Bill Smith, Billie De R'.ishe, Donald Rynearson, Wayne Coder, R. Vol unteers willing to assist with the work at any time are asked to call at the office or phone 265-J. The seals are expected to be in the mall by Nov. 21, said Mrs. Church. Because of Increased costs of the fight against Tubercu losis and the need for bringing the chest XRay to everyone, each letter mailed out will contain at least two sheets of seals. Persons desiring additional stamps, may obtain them at the office, or at booths which will be set up at a later date, according to Mrs. Church. K. Of P.
