Sev eral local members will take part. Mrs. Herman Matlsoff, presi dent, presided and also served as toastmistress. Mrs. Harold Jokla as topic mistress had each member speak on "Why Do Women Join Clubs and Or ganizations?" Reasons brought out Included helping civic pro Jects, creating more Interest In politics, self betterment and making new friends. Mrs. Thomas Martin and Mrs. Jack Myers.- Riving their first speeches, each gave autobiogra phical sketches. Mrs. Martin told of her early childhood and edu cation at Aberdeen, Wash. She discussed the town's history, concerning lumber development, Japanese boats, and fishing on the North river. Mrs. Myers said she was born in Chicago, and grew up there, being graduated from the Uni versity of Chicago. After her marriage she moved to Tulsa, Okla., Washington, D. C. Alaska, and Bakersfield Calif, where her husband was engaged In subma rine geology study. They cur rently operate a hunting and fish ing lodge on Me North iimpqua. The other speakers included Mrs. Daniel Dimick, and Mrs. Dallen Jones, who spoke on the "Most Interesting Character I Have Ever Known." Mrs. Dimick told the story of her grandfather, a Mormon settler of Utah. She related events in the settlement's history and the transforming of the desert to fertile grounds by irrigation. She told also of the early lives of the Mormons and their families. Her grandfather died at the age of 96. Mrs. Jones spoke of her father, "one of 13 red-headed sons." His love for adventure caused him to run away and join a circus for four years. He settled later !n the California oil fields, and drove a 16-mule team across the desert. He was later a railroad firemen, but finally returned to the out-of-doors, acquiring a small farm. . Mrs. E. L. Taushcr was eval- uator; Mrs. Opal Tuttle, critic, and Mrs. Harrison Winston, gram marian. There were 13 members and two guests present. The guests were Mrs. Nelson Howard and Mrs. Thomas D. Patty. Mrs. Katherine Simmons, Mrs. Eth elyn M. Freeman, Mrs. Betty Ray and Mrs. Agnes Stout were given corsages at the close of the degree work. Mrs. Ruth Goodridge became a member of the lodge by trans fer. The degree staff under the supervision of Mrs. Mary Bark er, captain, presented their new drill work wearing new white for- mals. The new projector, wnicn has been purchased by the lodge, brought out parts of the work. Mrs. Lucille Chase, Mrs. Mary Barker, Mrs. Helmie Burns were appointed a commltee to contact the American Legion on meet ing In the Legion hall. The lodge voted to adopt a girl at the I.O.O.F. home and a get -ac quainted box will be sent to ner after the next meeting. New officers were nominated.
