Jack Klser, the handsome and muscular Portlander, meets Maurice
LaChapelle of France in a semi-final match at the Roseburg Armory
Saturday that might well steal the show over a one-way grudge
battle between Leo Karlinko and Frankie Stojack. The two latter
matmen will vie in the headlllner. ,
Klser and LaChappelle are con
sidered two of the top-ranking
contenders for the Pacific coast
light-heavyweight championship,
and Matchmaker Elton. Owen has
promised the winner a title en
gagement against Al Szasz, newly-crowned
champ.
The title contenders are two
of the classiest grapplers in the
business and their spectacular
and action-packed tactics are
certain to give local followers
one of the best matches of the
season regardless of the possi
ble importance of a future cham
pionship engagement.
Klser, with his drop-kicks and
aher fleet-footed maneuvers, Is
the more sensational of the two.
But no wrestler has a better
fundamental background of the
sport than LaChappelle, Indicat
ing the bout will be a blistering
battle.
As for Karlinko, the so-called
"Mad Russian", is the only man
with a grudge. He hates every
one, including the fans, and Sto
jack will likely take advantage
of Karlinko's wildeyedness. The
former Tacoma cabinet-maker is
a workmanlike wrestler who
never gets ruffled.
Regardless of the outcome of
the one-hour headline match, al
though the fans will be rooting
for Stojack, the bout should be
an Interesting knock-down, drag
out affair.
The opener between Klser and
LaChappelle villi get under way
at 8:30 p.m., with Elton Owen
officiating both bouts.

test in district competition to
night. A Klamath Falls team that
overwhelmed Medford two weeks
ago, 21-6, meets the defending
champs on the Grants Pass field.
Grants Pass barely got by Med
ford, 7-6 last week, but neverthe
less Is a slight favorite to down
Klamath for the district 2 crown.
The close race In district 4 will
be highlighted by a trio of
games. Salem, Albany and Eu
gene are in the running there.
AIDany gets the toughest test this
weekend, playing Springfield.
Eugene is expected to coast by
its cross-town rival, University
high, and Salem to gallop past
Corvallis.
In district 3 Marshfield. the
favorite, meets a weak Coquille
team.
