But Dollar Value Down
SEATTLE .TV- Alaska's
1949 salmon pack is reported at
the highest figure since 1944, but
the dollar value was off 17 per
cent from last vear's record high.
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife
service reported the pack at 4,
375,147 cases, compared with 3,
974.510 last year.
The value was computed at ap
proximately $80,000,000 compared
with last year's record $96,000.

of McGovern and McGovern.
E. B. McGovern cited two rea
sons for the drop in total value
for the bigger pack: (1) General
reduction in salmon prices: for
example pinks were $23 to $24 a

year; and (2 A sharp reduction
in the pack of high priced red
salmon and an increase in the
lower priced pinks.

Mrs. Cena Wall, mother of
Mrs. Ora Williams, has recently
come to Sutherlin from Spring
field, Mo. Mrs. Wall plans to
make her home In this city and
is now living at the X. L. Court
for the present.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry West and
Ihelr son, Jack, spent last week
end In the Willamette vallev.
They attended the wedding of
Miss Lois Driscoll and Dale Can
ady In Eugene Friday evening.
They spent Friday and Saturday
nights at the home of Mr. West's
sister, Mrs. Al James, at Spring
field, and also visited relatives in
Eugene and Waltervllle on Sat
urday. Sunday morning thev
drove to Corvallls. where they
spent the dav with Mr. and Mrs.
Don West and Bill West. All at
tended church services In the
morning and then they visited
with Chris Bachaman, who is al
so attending Oregon State col
lege. This is the first year for
Chris and Bill, and the second for
Don.
