Volunteers snatched .he Wave
from the flaming wreckage while
firemen tried to extinguish the
blaze.
The Wave, Identified as Marv
Goldstein of Glen View, 111., was
reported in critical condition at a
hospital. The Atlanta Naval Air
station listed the dead as Ensign
Ralph Meeks Jr., the pilot, and
Commander C. Ross Kiester,
both of Atlanta. They were reservists.

some criticism of the measure
as unfair to consumers.
Senator Ives (R-NY), one of
the losing seven in the Senate
vote, said there was not a mem
ber who regards the bill as fair
to both consumers and farmers.
Rep. Fulton (R-Pa), from Pitts
burgh, suggested that perhaps
Santa Claus had a part in draft
ing the bill.
Senator Hickenlooper (R-Iowa)
argued on the other side that
farmers have never demanded
excessive economic support and
would not get it under the new
program. Rep. Cooley DNC)
called it "a bill to give America
a stable economy."
Senator Aiken (R Vt) said the
bill would encourage farmers to
shift from basic crops, of which

Yugoslavia Wins Seat On
U. N. Security Council
NEW YORK, Oct. 21. (,P
Yugoslavia won a seat In the
United Nations Security council
Thursday over the Soviet-sponsored
Czechoslovakia. The action
by the 59-natlon general assembly
was a rebuff to the Comlnform
Soviet bloc. , i
The vote on the second ballot
was Yugoslavia 39 and Czech o-
'Slovakia 19. Thirtv-nlne votes
were required for election. Yugo
slavia thus squeezed by one the
minimum number of votes needed.
The voting was by secret
ballot.
The United Slates supported
Yugoslavia for the council seat
now held by the Soviet Ukraine.

PORTLAND, Oct. 21 (TP)
City councilmen have voted to
make city employes' present
gross pay a minimum in a new
salary ordinance.
The vote was to include an $85
cost-of-living bonus In the new
base pay schedules. This would
freeze the minimum citv payroll
at nearly $800,000 a month.

Spending Of All Money Voted
By Congress Means Deficit
Of $5 Billion For Fiscal Year

money the 81st Congress has provided, It may run about $5,000,000,-'

The federal financial picture for the fiscal year, which ends next
June 30, looks like this:

The president's budget called for
estimated J4.000.000.0lH) in
such authority. Congress voted
$4,500,000,000.
Senator Ferguson (R-Mich) told
the Senate that Congress this
year has approved government
spending A $50.991, 4 19,997. He In
cluded in this total the direct ap
propriations, the indefinite funds
such as interest on the debt, and
contract authority.
Congress voted less In direct ap
propriations than the President
requested, but it ignored his tax
increase recommendations. The
president said at the start of the
session that a deficit would re
sult if Congress didn't do some
thing to get more revenue. "

SEATTLE. Oct. 21. Been
delaying that ocean excursion be
cause of seasickness? Well, forget
it. Military authorities said yes
terday they can cure 93 out of 100
cases with dramamlne pills.
The Seattle port of embarka
tion said the tests were made at
the request of the army surgeon
general on 600 green-at-the gills
passengers on six ships on Alaska
and Japan runs.
Half of the sick passengers
were given Ihe yellow dramamlne
pills. The others were given a
sugar and-starch pill which they
thought was dramamlne.
Within an hour or less, 95 per
cent of those receiving drama
