The drive will continue until 2 p. m. Saturday. BAPTIST CHURCH GIRLS' CLASS ENJOYS DINNER The eighth grade girls class of the First Baptist church was hon ored Thursday evening at the home of their teacher, Mrs. W. E. Bicknell with a supper party. During the evening the girls plan ned their activities for the Beaver is chairman of this year's show and is aided by a capable staff of committee chairmen. Hill, mother of Mrs. Jack Bathrick, returned to Mel rose Saturday from Portland, where she visited her sister and other relatives, and after visiting her son and daughter-in-law for a few days, will return to her home in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Merton Ransom of Hermiston, Ore., visited brief ly last week with the former's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ransom. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cory last Sunday were the iatter's aunt, Mrs. D. O. Nash, from Chester, Calif., and her son, Ora Nash; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dysert and Otis Helman trom rlournoy vanev; oan Storm. Pasadena, Calif.; Francis Currier, Roseburg, and David Ja coby from Lookingglass. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Krueger will leave for Portland next week to attend a state deputy grange school. Mr. and Mrs. K. L. Conn and son, Blake, and Mrs. Bessie Smith attended the Pacific Inter national Stock show at Portland. Howard Ranson. returned home the first of the week, from Van couver, B. C, where he received medical care. Frank Von Borstel. 4-H club leader from Roseburg, went to Callahan trail district last week. He presented Mrs. Catherine Cory with her 20-year diamond 4-H club pin. Mrs. Leonard Cooper and daughter. Laura Bell; Mrs. Wal ter Kruse and daughter. Darlene, and Miss Ruby Matthews left Thursday for Portland to attend the Pacific International Live stock show. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Busenbark went to Eugene where they at tended the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harlow on Octo ber 2. Mrs. Clarson Chitwood is leav ing Sunday for Portland to go through the Portland clinic. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Wolf are the proud parents of an 8-pound son, John Christian, born Oct. 11 at Mercy hospital in Roseburg. Joel Fenn visited at Callahan trail school last week and pre sented each pupil from the fifth grade on up with a Gideon testa ment. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bonebrake recently visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Bonebrake, at Ashland where Grant is attending school. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bathrick re cently purchased an acre of land from T. B. Busenbark. They will soon start building a new home on it. Ground is being broken on the Melrose roule, across from the Chit wood's Melrose dairy, w here a new home will be built for the Gregory family. They recently sold the home where they are now living. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bonebrake and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W .F. Bonebrake, re cently returned home from a trip Into Canada and to Washington where they visited the former's daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Leach. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thomp son and F. O. Warren recently re turned home from a hunting trip to eastern Oregon. Mrs. E. Edman left last Sunday for Salem, to visit her son-in-law and daugther, Mr. and Mrs. Roy wenner. Oct. 18-.P) An automobile slammed Into a horse, bounced across the high way and crashed into another car last night, killing six persons and seriously injuring another. The cars struck with such ter rific impact they had to be pulled apart to remove the victims. Killed were Cecil Sydney Camp of Baton Rouge. La., head of the hydraulics engineering depart ment at Louisiana State univer sity; his wife and their two chil dren. Robert 10. and Arthur 9. Francis Mitchell, of Fayette ville. Ark., LSU engineering stu dent. Leo Jackson of Rayville. Camp. 42. came to LSU from the University of Tennessee. He also had taught at Syracuse uni versity.
