Community Concert Assn. Lays Plans For Annual Membership Drive Final details for the annual membership week of the Hoaeburg Community Concert association, to be held beginning Monday, are completed, according to Miss Gladys ,H. Strong, president of the group. A last-minute check up of all preparations -will be made over the weekend, said Miss Helen Casey, general chairman of the association, to insure that the drive will be as successful this year as it has been in the past. The campaign will open with the annual dinner meeting for all the workers, executive com mittee, and the board of direc tors. The dinner will be given in the junior high school at 6:30 p. m., Monday. Those at the dinner will meet Mrs. Mar garet Blackburn of New York, organization director and repre sentative of the nationwide Com munity Concert service. Mrs. Blackburn, who will be In Roseburg for the entire week to assist in the details of the cam paign, will speak at the dinner and she will also provide an un usual entertainment feature. This will be a showing of the new sound film production. "A Carnegie Hall in Every Town." The movie presents outstanding performances of great and belov ed music by six representative artists from the Community Con cert list. LVi Lord Boyd Orr says he will use the money from the 1949 Nobel peace prize, nearly $22,000, to promote peace and world government. "The important thing in the. world today is to get the nations to cooperate," he said last night. Boyd Orr, a Scotsman, believes wars can be prevented by crea tion of a world federal govern ment and by raising more food to prevent hunger. The Norwegian parliament's Nobel committee announced the award Wednesday. Boyd Orr is a food expert and practical farmer. He formerly headed the I'nited Nations food and agri cultural organization. The prize, awarded from a fund set up In 1896 by Alfred B. Nobel, the Inventor of dynamite, amounts to 156,289.82 Norwegian kroner iS21.889.30). It Is awarded to persons deemed outstanding in promoting peace among nations. The Nobel committee does not give reasons for its awards but the 69-year-old recipient said he believed the prize was given him for his proposals for a world food plan as well as for hie work for a world federal government.
