Kiwanis Buying Rubbish Cans For Business Sector
One ruhhlsh ran has already
appeared on the atreeta of Rose
burg, and Indications are that at
least nine more will be secured In
the very near future.
A check for $S0 for four cam
made out to the city by the Ki
wanis club had to be returned, in.
asmuch as the city cannot accept
or expend unhudtreted items, ac
cording t City Manager M. W.
Slankard.
However, the Kiwanis will be
given the privilege of paying for
four cans, which have been or
dered, upon their arrival. The
city has granted permisison for
them to be installed upon the
streets.
The one can now up was pur
chased hy the Lion club, and an
other has been ordered hy the
city. The Lions have ordered four
more, which will arive shortly.
About 30 cans In all will be
needed to cover the entire city
businesa district, according to
Slankard. The possibility has
been advanced that other service

A navy board has absolved "any
person or persons in the naval
service" of fault or negligence in
the death of former Secretary of
Defense James Forrestal.
Forrestal. who retired from of
fice in arch. leaped to his death
May 22 from a tower at the Naval
hospital in Bethesda, Md. He was
admitted to the hospital April 2
suffering from what naval medi
cal authorities described as "op
erational fatigue."

San Benito, where it was explain

been spent in the past few years
to increase power to meet the
growing needs of the Rio Grande
valley. They were assured the
plant was capable of meeting
every emergency.
