White (D-Cahf) quoted President Truman today as saying he strongly lavors 90 per cent parity price supports for the basic farm crops. White said he called on Mr. Truman to urge him to suport 90 per cent price props as against the flexible 75 to 90 per cent sup ports in the farm bill now before the Senate. "The president Informed me he has been supporting 90 per cent all along and will continue to do so In accordance with his prom ises to the people in the last cam paign," White told reporters. In view of the Senate's rejec tion of the 90 per cent supports last week, White said the battle for them will probably have to be carried over into the next session J 01 congress oeginmng in January. He said Mr. Truman told him he "isn't going to attempt to in terfere" with congress's action on the pending farm bill. The Calilornian added that both he and the president hope to get a farm law carrying out their ideas, "if not at this session, then in the next." Senator Lucas of Illinois, the democratic Senate leader, has backed the pending bill of Sen ator Anderson ID-NM), former s.-cretary of agriculture, which provides for flexible price sup ports at 75 to 90 per cent of par ity. Parity is a 'price designed to give the farmer a fair return for what he grows in relation to what he buys. The Senate is to renew debate on the farm bill tomorrow. It will consider an amendment by Senator Magnuson ID-Wash) to keep out foreign agricultural products if their entry would con flict with U. S. farm-aid programs. It is silly to soend millions of dollars supporting prices for farmers, Magnuson contends, and at the same lime enter into tariff cutting agreements that allow competitive farm Imports that de press prices. Senator Anderson (D-NM), floor manager for the flexible price support bill under considera tion, told a reporter that Mag nuson may be able to muster enough votes to make his amend ment stick. Last week a similar Magnuson move was narrowly defeated 37 to 35 on the ground that it would Impede the reciprocal trade agree ments of the administration.
