Restrictions On Vets Study Courses Dropped WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 OP) The Veterans administration can celed Wednesday its controver sial order restricting the rights of veterans to change courses ot study under the GI Bill. Veterans Administration Carl R. Gray Jr., issued a new set of "regulations permitting many veterans to change courses and schools, or to take post graduate study, or to enroll in schools es tablished since September, 1944, without providing special "justi fication." The older order, now abolished, required "Justification" in such cases. The new regulations continue a ban on avocational or recrea tional courses. The word "hybrid" comes from a Latin word meaning "mongrel". Coal Strike Not Ready For Govt. Step-in Truman WASHINGTON. Oct. 6 P President Truman said today that the coal and steel strikes have not yet reached the point for his intervention. He made the statement at a news conference. Minutes earlier John L. Lewis accepted an invi tation to attend a government sponsored peace parley on the coal strike tomorrow. The mediation talks were call ed by conciliation director Cyrus Ching, who said the coal situa tion is approaching a crisis. Mr. Truman said warning of government officials that the coal and steel stoppages will hurt the domestic economy were well tim ed and necessary. He then went on to say that th situation has not yet reached a stage for him to intervene. Asked about progress in studies to find synthetic fuels. Mr. Tru man said progress is being made, particularly regarding shale de posits in Utah. He added that experiments tre being carried on in Virginia on coal to provide liquid fuel. The coal operators accepted Ching's invitation te tomorrow's conference before Lewis acted. The United Mine Workers chief, In characteristic fashion, sent Chlng a two-word telegram from White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., where negotiations on the dispute are being held: "Will altend." The mines have been shut down since September 19 in what Lewis chose to regard as a "spontan eous" protest against the suspen sion of old age pensions and wel fare benefits from his fast-vanishing welfare fund. ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH Pastor Betty Williams French Premier Quits Over Wage Boost Proposal PARIS, Oct. 6-.P) President Auriol accepted today the resig nation of Premier Queuille, and the extreme right and left imme diately began clamoring for a re turn to power. Queuille offered his resignation yesterday after a bitter Cabinet deadlock on the wage-price issue, and Auriol was unable to per suade the radical Socialist (Con servative) leader to reconsider. The communists and the follow ers of Gen. Charles de Gaulle on the extreme right had been ex cluded from Queuille's coalition, which had managed to give France some political stability by remaining in office a year and 25 days, longer than any other postwar French cabinet. Queuille quit because he oppos ed demands for a general wage boost made by the Socialists, who were one of the main parties in his coalition cabinet. Communist and non-communist unions have demanded wate boosts ta offset rising prices ex pected from devaluation of th franc. It was the fifth time since the creation of he postwar fourth French Republic that Auriol has accepted a premier's resignation. An Arabian alchemist of the tenth century named Albukasen was the first known man to men tion the distillation process. P.ev.
