Appliance dealers, grocers, druggi'sts-in fact most business
men have one problem in common. They need and wtnt
more women customers.
And some are adding new customers every day. Take John,
for instance. Here's how he does it.
John's big display of large and smail appliances is carefully
chosen as to brand and make. H has chosen the brands his
customers know and prefer becau.e they are regularly ad
vertised in this newspaper by their manufacturers.
Then John runs ads of his own in this newspaper to tell the
community where it can buy its favorite makes of refrigera
tors, deep-frceiers, ranges and smaller appliances.
John understands women customers. His system works. It
will work for any business man, too. For further details, talk
it over with our advertising department.

Fair Competition
Assurance Given
American Lumber
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 CP)
The Economic Cooperation ad
ministration plans no change in
its policy of Insisting the United
States lumber industry be afford
ed a chance to complete for
business made possible with
ECA dollars.
Paul Hcfffman, administration
head, so informed Rep. Mack
(R-Wash) In reply to a request
from the congressman.
Mack wrote hoffman that
Washington state lumber manu
facturers and producers were
concerned over an announcement
by the State department that
more latitude would be allowed
the United Kingdon in purchases
made with ECA dollars after the
British devalued the pound.
Mack wrote Hoffman that
change In the previously an
nounced policy to Insist Ameri
can producers he given a chance
to bid on purchases made with
ECA dollars would greatly harm
the nation's lumber and plywood
industry.
"There Is no change contem
plated in the policy whereby the
United States lumber industry is
afforded an opportunity to com
pete for lumber products where
dollars are used to purchase the
commodity," Hoffman replied.
