SMILEY New-Revlrw Cnropondent Miss Ethel Springer of Wash ington, D. C, spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Smiley in Reedsport, leaving Thursday for San Francisco and other California points. Miss Springer, a retired house mother at St. Margaret's hall, Berkeley, Calif., has been mak ing her home with friends in Washington, D. C, since her re tirement. She came out to the coast to visit relatives and at tend a reunion of officials of the school, known officially as St. Margaret's Episcopal School for Girls. . Other weekend guests at the Smiley home were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Radke of San Fernando, Calif., and their guest, Mis. Schroeder, who are spending their vacation along the Oregon coast. Mrs. Radke and Mrs. Smiley are cousins. Mr. Radke has charge of one of the water pump ing units lor the City of Los An geles. Despite the unusually dry season, no serious shortage of water is anticipated there, he says. Visiting tn Reedsport Ruby Stuber, who taught In the grade school in Gardiner last year and is now teaching in Lake side, was visiting friends in Reedsport Saturday. Football Field Dedicated Reedsport'i new football field, used Friday night for the first night game to be played in this vicinity, drew a near -capacity crowd although the game was not considered an important one. The event was also the dedication of this new field. . Jack Flug, superintendent of schools for Reedsport, gave 'he initial speech, dedicating the field to the youth in the com munity. He was followed by By ron Serfling of Gardiner, chair man of the board, who thanked the different groups and individ uals who have worked to get the field ready for the opening of the season. Leo Naapi, president of the student body, spoke for lie pupils, expressing their appre ciation. The American Legion color guard marched around the field, after which the flag was raised on the large flag pole. The game which followed ended 32-7 in ia vor of Reedsport. Bible Academy At Canyonville Has Record Roster The Canyonville Bible academy has 136 students enrolled this year, the highest in the history of tne school, mere are 29 seniors, 34 Juniors, 38 sophomores, and 35 freshmen. The students come from nine states and two terri tories. California Is first with 59 Oregon and Washington next with J and 21. respectively. The C. B. A. is a four-year high school with some Bible training m addition to regular courses. Music, drama and construction courses are also taught. Teachers this year are: Howard Haymes, Canyonville, history; Mrs. Howard Haymes, home econ omics and commercial subjects; W. C. North Roseburg Church Will Form Junior Choir The North Roseburg church will organize its Junior choir this Saturday. This is one of several activities planned for ihe chil dren of the community.
