ILA TRIPP AND WILLIAM QUI RKE MARRY ON MONDAY EVENING Ila Tripp of Azalea and William Quirke of Portland were quietly married at an eight-thirty o'clock ceremony Monday evening, Sept. 19, at the home of Justice of the Peace and Mrs. Robert Jones In Glendale. Attractive fall flowers decorat ed the fireplace. Justice of the Peace Robert Jones performed the ceremony. The bride's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hcckard, of Azalea, were attendants. The bride wore a blue dress with a corsage of pink rosebuds. Mrs. Heckard wore a blue suit with a corsage of red rosebuds. Attending the wedding, besides the bridal party and Mr. and Mrs. Jones were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kemp and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Backman. CHARITY ALLEN AND CLARK COH MARRY ON SEPTEMBER 10TH Miss Charity Allen and Clark Cole both of Oakland were mar ried at the Calapooia Free Metho dist church at two o'clock the aft ernoon of Sept. 10. Rev. Kenneth Harger performed the impressive ceremony in the presence of close friends and relatives. An archway of fern boughs and mixed fall flowers formed the set ting, while large bouquets of mix ed flowers were arranged about the church. Mrs. Harold Cole, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, played the tra ditional wedding marches and ac companied Miss Robeanna Bai ley, who sang, "Because." The bride, given in marriage by Bob Robertson, a close friend, was beautiful in a gown of white marquisette. Her veil of Illusion was finger-tip in length and she carried a white Bible topped by a spray of pink gladioli blossoms. Miss Josephine Allen, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid and wore a white satin formal and carried a bouquet of mixed blos soms. Joe Cole Jr., was best man and ushers were Harold Cole and Rolston Cole, all brothers of the bridegroom. A reception followed In the Cal apooia clubhouse. The beautifully decorated cake was cut and serv ed with other refreshments by relatives of the bridegroom. The bride was graduated from Oakland High school last spring. The bridegroom is emnloved with a logging concern at Drain. Fol lowing a short honeymoon over the Willamette pass and back by the Oregon Caves and Medford. the couple will make their home near Drain. TWO TRAINING COURSES GIVEN FOR CAMP FIRE LEAOERS AND GUARDIANS In connection with the annual national "Membership March" of the Camp Fire Girls organization two training courses were held in the Christian church basement this week. One for the benefit of new Blue Bird leaders and the other for Camp Fire guardians. Monday afternoon Mrs. Thelma Slattery opened the Blue Bird leader's program with a report on the abilities and capacities of the seven, eight and nine-year-old Blue Bird girls. Her discus sion was interspersed with illus trations of the group she led two years ago. This was followed by a model meeting with Mrs. Slat tery acting as leader and other women as girls. Games and songs were included. Mrs. Robert Gladwlll display ed several handcraft articles ap propriate for Blue Birds and taught the class to make yarn flowers. Mrs. Leonard Gibson, execu tive director, explained the or ganization of new groups and told of material and help to be found in the local Camp Fire office In Miller's basement. Mimeographed ed aids for new leaders were dis tributed. Attending were the Mesdames Arthur Travis, Mary Lu Walker, Louise Brown, Lois Miller, Mary Fisher, Bette Leach, Ann McDon ald, Charlotte Cowin, Annalee Ladd. Kay Gamble, Stella Sade. For the benefit of Camp Fire guardians a training course was conducted Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. James E. Conn givlvg a history of Camp Fire, explain ing Indian lore and how it is car ried through the Camp Fire pro gram. Each girl has an Indian name and learns to use Indian symbols in the form of a symbol gram to express it. Mrs. Dale Sail displayed the handcraft work her group at Win chester had completed during the summer and demonstrated a flower centerpiece made from a tin can and scraps of crepe pa per. Mrs. Gibson discussed the "Li brary of Seven Crafts" and other material available at the Camp Fire office. She instructed lead ers on girls' participation in the current membership march and organization of new groups. Mimeographed sheets for new guardians were on hand. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Friday, who have moved here from Forest Grove, were welcomed as special guests. Mis. Friday is the grand chief of the grand jurisdiction of Pythian Sis ters of Oregon. The large horseshoe table was decorated with fall fruits, and vegetables and centered with a huge birthday cake encircled with purple grapes and leaves.
