Spring Chinook Salmon Will
Be Hatched By Rock Creek
Operations For First Time
For the lint time In its hiitory the game commission hatcher)'
on Rock creek will hatch spring chlnook salmon. Jamei Vaughn,
superintendent, is trapping a few salmon Irom the Umpqua river.
Approximately 23,000 eggs have been received from the Imnaha
river, and it is hoped that about 50,000 additional eggs will be
forthcoming from various sources.
The hatchery also Is preparing
to handle about 500,000 fall Chi
nook eggs promised by the U. S.

record for a single crossing.
There was no indication
whether the Cuban will make it

planned.
The record is unofficial until
the naval tug which accompanied
him with official timers aboard
returns to Spain.

population. The lake will be per
mitted to rest until the poison dis
appears, then will be. restocked
with freshwater shrimp prepara
tory to being planted with trout.

dam reservoir area where infesta
tion with trash fish was heavy.
Game fish will be planted in the
reservoir. If they fall to thrive,
it is planned later to stock the
area with spiney ray species.

Dr. B. J. Thompson, Corvallis,
was credited today with the lirst
kill of the Mt. Emily refuge spe
cial archery season.
Thompson shot a cow elk with
a bow and arrow from 40 yards'
distance near the Crystal Springs
camp Monday. Last year he shot
a deer with bow and arrow; and
the year before, a moose in
Canada.
