Mrs. Stella Spencer Introduced Mrs. Helen Chase, Eugene, state membership chairman, who gave a talk on membership and the year's program for Business and Professional Women's clubs of TATE OFFICERS VISIT JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUi AT SPECIAL MEETING Mrs. Harold Jonela, president, called special meeting of the Junior Woman's club Monday evening at the Moose hall, at which time Mrs. Emery C. Ing ham, Portland, Junior extension chairman for the Oregon Federa tion of Women's clubs, and Mrs. C. H. Caslner, Portland, federa tion parliamentarian, made offi cial visits. Mrs. Ingham reported on the benefits derived from the Gener al Federation and gave a very Inspiring talk on the Boys Train ing school at Woodburn, which Junior Woman'i clubs of Oregon are helping by adopting the pro ject ot furnishing and equipping a recreation home in one of the school's four cottages as their No. 1 activity for the year. The cluba of the state will pay for an Interior decorator to plan the recreation room and will fur nish materials and equipment, x hile the bovs of the school themselves w'lll make the furni ture, do the painting and paper ing and will also do the upholster ing. It Is hoped the work will be done bv Christmas, at which time an open-house to the public will be held. The school has been of special Interest to Junior clubs for more than two years. In 1947-48 and 1948-49 clubs raised $1400 to pro vide musical instruments for the school band: to equip the basket ball team with uniforms, etc. Mrs. Ingham Is making a tour of Ore gon clubs to tell the Junior club women ot the plans ior wooa burn. Mrs. Castner explained the rules and laws of the organiza tion. Mrs. E. L. Tauscher, new con tact chairman of the club, was S resent and will represent the unior club at the district con vention In Reedsport. Mrs. Ingham and Mrs. Castner were accompanied by Mrs. Max lne Nieml who is treasurer of the third district and a Seaside Jun ior. Plans were made for the first regular business meeting of the club, which will he October 3. The place of the meeting will be announced later. HAS INTERESTING MEETING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The W. C. T. V. reviewed high lights of the Golden Jubilee na tional convention and discussed the recommendations of the na tional president for alma and methods of work for the future at a meeting held In the home of Mrs. Ben B. Irving Wednesday afternoon. The Children's Farm Home at Corvallls, established by the W. C. T. U., Is a proteslant home which cares for children from all parts of the state. A Christmas box was planned and gifts can now be sent in both for that oc casion and for general assistance. All types ol athletic equipment, toiletries, books, new or used clothing In good condition for both boys and girls from the ages of S to 17, will be gladly receiv ed. For the home in general, bed ding Is always needed, also tow els or all types, aprons, pictures, furniture, music and handcraft materials. Rev. Richard E. Graef, and his wife a housewarming. The social was held under the auspices of St. John's Missionary Guild. Rev. and Mrs. Graef were well re membered with a large assort ment of canned goods and fresh fruit. The social was preceded by a short business meeting 'of the Guild to take care of routine matters. A v- .. .-- ' KNIGHT PORTER DOUGLAS COURT NO. 11 CEREMONIES TAKE PLACE HERE SATURDAY EVENING Douglas Court No. 18, U.D., which was organized In June in Roseburg, was constituted Doug las Court No. 18 at four-thirty o'clock Saturday, Sept. 10, by the Grand Royal Matron, Mrs. Edna F. Manning, of Salem, and Grand Royal Patron, Earl Beeson, of Eugene, and the staff of Grand officers. A six o'clock no host dinner was held in the I.O.O.F. hall with members of the Rebekah lodge In charge. The tables were beauti fully decorated in carrying out the theme of the name Douglas Court. The place cards were handpainted pictures of Douglas fir o.n small pieces of fir ply wood and were painted by Mrs. D. L, Taylor and daughter. Miss Laria Lee; Mrs. Murry Smitn, Mrs. T. W. Bernard and Mrs. Fred Darby. Small fir boughs, tall red tapers and tiny red crabapples completed the decorations. Mrs. Kenneth Quine was chairman of the dinner and decorations. During the ceremonies, vocal solos were presented by Miss Carla Lee Taylor, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Hanford. A reception followed at the Ma sonic temple. Refreshments were charmingly served buffet style. Mrs. Murry bmith, conductress, and Mrs. T. W. Bernard, asso ciate conductress, poured, assist ed by Miss Pat Greer and Miss Marcia Bernard. Mrs. Lester G. Twohy, Mrs. Fred Darby, Mrs. T. W. Bernard and Mrs. Thelma Greer were in charge of the beautifully decorat ed tables, which were arranged with a profusion of grapes in three shades and leaves with grape blue and white tapers. On the evening of September 2, the Grand Royal Matron, Mrs. Manning of Salem; and the Grand Royal Patron, fcarl Beeson, of Eugene, paid their official visit to Douglas Court. Mr. Beeson was accompanied by his wife. Other grand officers were James F. Manning, grand marshal, Sa lem; Nadine James, grand lec turer, and Frances E. Hurlburt, grand secretary, both of Port land. Meredith and the late M. M. Meredith of this city. The wedding date has been planned for September 29. The engagement of Miss Bush ey and Mr. Meredith was told at a charming party Thursday eve ning at the bride-elect s home. A scrambled word game revealed the engagement news. LADY LIONS HOLD FIRST FALL DINNER MEETING MONDAY The Lady Lions auxiliary met at Carl's Haven Monday evening lor a seven o'clock dinner with Mrs. Bucklev Bell, Mrs. Bruce Elliott and Mrs. A. W. Kobernlk, hostesses. The tables and dining room were beautifully decorat ed with fall flowers. Iris Helliwell explained the need for money for the emergen cy polio fund to carry on the polio work and the club donated $25 to the cause. The business meeting was fol lowed by an Interesting program, which included extemporaneous talks on given subjects. FALL ACTIVITIES OF CAM P FIRE AND BLUEBIRDS TO BEGIN Douglas county Camp Fire and Bluebird guardians will begin their fall activities at the Chris tian church basement Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. At that time Mrs. Galla will show moving pic tures taken at Camp Tyee during the summer camp sessions. A number of counsellors from the camp staff plan to be present to lead singing and will give a short skit, in charge uf Miss Lois Fitz gibbons. Those attending are asked to bring a guest who would be in terested in Camp Fire and Blue bird activities. CIRCLE NO. 1, HAS INTERESTING MEETING WEDNESDAY EVENING Circle No. 1, of St. Joseph's Altar society met Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. How ard Wilson on South Main street with Mrs. Mallory and Mrs. Gardner as hostesses. Commit tees were appointed for fall ac tivities. Mrs. Amiot. speaker for the evening, gave a talk on "The Life of St. Theresa." which prov ed most interesting and inspir ing. Hostesses for the Sept. 28th meeting will be Mrs. Parsons and Mrs. Stiewig. The place will be announced later. All women of the parish are cordially Invited to attend the meetings.
