Dog Control Law
Is Explained By
City Manager
City Manager M. W. Slankard
today iuued an explanation of
the dog control lawi under which
the city ii now operating ill new
municipal dog pound, under state
law and city ordinance.
"Confusion in the minds of
many persons is created over the
stipulation that dogs must not be
permitted to run at large even
thoug'.i they are licensed," Slan
kard said.
"If dogs are creating a nuis
ance, that is, if they are running
at large, through yards and after
cars, they will be picked up and
lodged in the municipal Jog
pound, whether they are licensed
or not,)' he said.
Complaints are turned in to the
city hall regarding the offending
dogs and, according to law, the
city dog control officers must im
pound them If It is determined
the canines are creating a nuis
ance. Slankard urged local dog own
ers to keep their pets within the
confines of their property, other
wise the dogs will be impounded
and owners will have to "bail"
them out.
Roseburg's two dog control of
ficers, who began work Sept. 1,
are Elbert W. Naas and Kenneth
F. Calhoun, both of Roseburg.
