McPherson Rt. 2, Box 153 Phono M5 J 1 Romance Told Of Victoria And Mojonier Acquaintanceship Starts In California; Rejoins Ralph Later In Oregon In the resort setting of Ocean Park pier at Santa Monica, Calif., Victoria "Vicky" Sandeis met Ralph Mojonnier while both were working in restaurant there, Ralph's sister testified in Victoria's murder trial yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Sylvia M. Gleason, owner of a restaurant on the pier, took the stand to describe the relation ship between her brother and the girl who Is now charged with his murder. Ralph was employed by Mrs. Gleason, Victoria by "Mrj. Langley," also on the pier. Under questioning of District Attorney Robert G. Davis, Mrs. Gleason said she had known Vic toria "three or tour years," the acquaintanceship starting about a year-and a half before Ralph came to work in his sister's res taurant. Clved In Guest House At that time, he was living in Venice, Calif., where he owned a house, Mrs. Gleason said. When ht came to work for his sister, he moved Into a guest house lo cated behind Mrs. Gleason's home. He lived there nine months. Victoria did not live with him In the guest house, said Mrs. Gleason. Mrs. Gleason told the court that her brother was "quiet, re served, an all - round good fel low. He was also extremely clean." When he moved back to his house in Venice, he and Victoria "lived together as man and wife." Mrs. Gleason told the Jury that she had gone to her broth er's home and "she was there." Mrs. Gleason didn't talk to Ralph about his relationship with Vic toria until after he moved to Ore gon. Ralph had been married and his divorce was pending when he moved to Oregon, Mrs. Gleason also told the court. Claims His Child Asked by the district attorney If she had "ever talked with the defendant" after Ralph went to Oregon, Mrs. Gleason said that Vicky had told her she was preg nant and "it was Ralph's child." Later Victoria rejoined Ralph In Oregon. Mrs, Gleason said she visited Ralph and Victoria in their home near Drain, in March of 1947. They were making plans to be married. Ralphs mother talked to Vicky In Mrs. Gleason's pres ence. "She seemed very elated over the fact she was going to be married," said the witness. As the last witness of the after noon, Mrs. Gleason's testimony was interrupted by the thunder and lightning storm, which rat tled windows of the courtroom. Judge Carl E. Wimberly reces sed court, in order to permit Jur ors and witnesses to get on their wraps before the storm became more severe. Neighbors Testify Olher witnesses yesterday in cluded Ray Farnsworth, Jr., and Ray Farnsworth, Sr., neighbors of Victoria and Ralph, who re lated events leading up to the dis covery of Ralph's bodv in the house he shared with Vicky, on the morning of Oct. 29. 1947. Farnsworth, Jr.. identified In a series of photographs as well as on a large chart, showing a floor plan, the windows he looked through and the doors he tried the afternoon of Oct. 28. when he became concerned about Mojon nler's absence from work. He and Mojonnier were asso ciated in a spray painting busi ness. Farnsworth said he looked through a window at the rear of the house. A corner of a bed was visible in an adjacent room. I thought I saw a pair of feet on the bed. 1 still couldn't swear to it to this day," Farnsworth testi fied. As he left the house, he thought he heard "a groan or a snore." Becomes Confused Under Defense Attorney Paul E. Geddes' questioning the wit ness became confused in his tes timony as to the number of times he visited the scene that day, lie tore he and other members of the Farnsworth family entered the house with the permission of Justice of the Peace Clarence Leonard at Drain to investigate. Farnsworth said he "didn't re call" saying to his lather, "He's probably drunk. He might grab a gun and shoot if we go in." He told Geddes he "could have" told this to J. H. Williams, former deputy sheriff, and H. A. Canada-, "former district attorney. Although Farnsworth recalled visiting the house only three times that day, Geddes read a transcription of hi testimony at a coroner's Inquest held earlv in 1948. that he had v.sited the house lour times. He denied that lie I drove out of the driveway of the ! Mojonnier house after dark and that he was recognized by ftir. and Mrs. Stanley Applegate. in the headlights of their car as they drove past on the highway. Broke Into House Both Farnsworth and his father testified that they broke into the house the morning of Oct. 29. to gether with Dale Farnsworth and Mrs. Ray Farnsworth. and found Molonnier's bodv on the bed.
