Unions Authorize Strike Against Union Pacific R. R. SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. SO WS Engineers nd conductor unions have authorized a strike, effective Oct. 1, against the Un ion Pacific railroad In five west ern states, officials announced to day. They emphasized, however, that negotiations with manage ment might result In postponing of the projected walkout An nouncement of the strike action was made here by H. W. Cor bett of Pocalello, general chair man of the Order of Railway Con ductors, and in Namna, Idaho, by D. W. Brassey, chairman of the Nempa local of the Brother hood of Locomotive Engineers. In both cases the dispute In volves time claims which have been rejected during the past tjree years, union spokesmen said. ' Union Pacific railroad au thorities declined to comment. Coroner Henry Wager said. McCullin Bradley, 45, a tran sient worker from Delaware, was dead when found in the cell Mon day morning by officers who at tempted to waken him for break fast. He had been arrested earlv Sunday on a charge of drinking in public. Roy F. Comstock. 35, of Illinois, was near death, hut was resusci tated by an Ellensburg fire de partment crew. Comstock had been arrested early Sunday on drunkenness charges. A third prisoner, Hadsell Brum baugh of Seattle, also drank some of the anti freeze but not enough ot make him seriously ill, Wager said. The fluid was of the permanent anti-freeze type and had, been stored in the supply room in the Jail tank after it was drained from police vehicles last winter. RALPH CAKE HURT REDMOND, Aug. 30.
