HORSE RACING OPENS AT FAIRCROUNDS Here's an aerial
view of the county fairgrounds, where a 10-day horse race meet
opens today. This picture was taken at the time of the rodeo
this year and does not show recent improvements which have
been made this summer. In this picture, west is toward the top
of the page. The grandstands are on the west side of the race
track. South of the grandstands (to the left) is one of the
horse barns. The curved roof of the fair building is also visible.
North of the grandstands (to the right), near the road, are the
buildings of the Naval Reserve unit. Horse racing is scheduled
under auspices of the Umpqua Jockey club from Aug. 1 7 through
the 27th. Last three days of the meet will coincide with the first
annual county fair, Aug. 25, 26 and 27. The Trail Dust Saddle
club will also hold its annual "Stampede" those seme throe days.
