CASS. PH. 10 PRINCE RUPERT. B. C. Aug. 10. CP) A remote mystery shrouded valley In British Colum bia's interior may hold the an swer to the question of North America's prehistoric settle ment. Luther W. Elder, a Prince Ru Dert prospector, returned from a field trip recently with tales of crude stone houses in a valley near Usk on the Copper river, about 100 miles east of here. The houses, Elder believes, may have been dwellings of our monkey-like ancestors who mov ed across the frozen Siberian wastes to settle In the warmer climate. Scientists' knowledge of the Paleolithic age In North America is slight. Up to now it has been contended that the continent was settled by Europeans from Russia. Elder, who has prospected in the Usk area for many years, had never been In the valley be fore. Residents of the district dis claim any knowledge of the wild territory. The Paleolithic age la distin guished by scientists aa an era of flint tools and weapons when the hairy, shambling ape-men struggled for their existence among strange, now extinct ani mals. Scant details brought back by Elder said nothing of any Imple ments or other evidence of hu man habitation. Col. S. D. Johnston, local real estate broker and former area commandant of the Canadian army here during the second World War, plans a visit to the valley In the near future to make a more complete report on the discovery. Klan Leader Issues Edict Against Mask-Wearing ATLANTA, Aug. 10. (.PV The Ku Klux Klan's chief Monday is sued an "imperial edict" against mask-wearing about 36 hours after south Georgia townsfolk and robed night riders swapped shots. The order from Dr. Samuel Green, Imperial Wizard, came after the one-armed mayor of Iron City, Ga., and some of his friends opened fire on a Klan motorcade. To wind up the shcotir.g war, the mayor chased a Klan official into Alabama at a 100-mile per hour pace and had him Jailed. r. Green threatened members of the sheeted order with banish ment if they appear "on any street, road or highway wearing a mask or visor." He said the edict was neces sary because certain "unlawful i acts have brought unlust crlll-! cism against Klammen." The Association of Georgia Klans, which Green heads, has been placed on the subversive list of the VS. Department of Justice. Green denied any connection between his organization and the Iron City incident.
