Bob Moon, emcee of KHJ-Don Lee's weekday "Ladles First"
show (11-11:30 a. m.) has proven his ability at least that's the
opinion of a French Poodle who resides In tht Bay area, A fan
letter explains the situation th'usly:
"SUPREME COMPLIMENTS AND FLATERY TO THE
ANNOUNCER OF YOUR 8TATION1 BEGINNING at 11
a. m. each week day morning. I do not know hit name,
but his voice MUST BE ENTRANCING! I own a French
Poodle Dowager who happens to be 23 years otdl Now this
Dowager has two daughters the Dowager and the two
daughters look after the house during the working day. But
she has to have her favorite "ANNOUNCERS." When I
leave the house In the morning she sees to It that the proper
announcer Is on, or else she tells met When I tune In Mu
tual-Don tee, then she settles back on her pillow and
down comforter and LISTENS! If I turn the radio off, aha
lets me know! So, to me, this Is the most sincere type of
flattery that could be accorded to anyone's voice! When a
dog whose ears are so finely attuned) will leave the room
when some voices are heard, tells me this particular an
nouncer must have persuasive qualities. Anyway, I thought
you would like to know. No finer tribute could be paid
to anyone, or to anyone's voice, than that from a dog's ear.
. attuned to the finer things In life!

Vaino Pajari, Ex- Dairy Rancher,
Leaves By Air For Old Country
By S. S. SMILEY
News-Review Correspondent
Vaino Pajari oi Reedsport, a
native of Finland, lett for his old
home Thursday night for a few
months' visit, making the trip
entirely by plane. Mr. Pajari op
erated a large dairy ranch near
here for many years, until the
death of his wife.
He moved to Reedsport recent
ly and has been a night watch
man at the Umpqua River Navi
gation company plant on the wa
terfront. He left the North Bend airport
Thursday night and expected to
be in Helsinki, Finland, Sunday.
Eagerly looking forward to the
wonderful trip and the chance to
visit his old home, Viano had not
fully decided just how long he
would stay away. His son, Arnie
Pajari, lives here.
Deep Sea Crabbing Discontinued
DeeD sea crabbing has been dis-
continued alone the coast-adia-

repaired and stored until the fall
season.
Packing crab meat has been dis
continued at the Anton Hoel
plant in Reedsport and at the Co
lumbia River Packers association
plant, as well as at the Charles
Marks plant at Winchester Bay.
The Polly Ann, fished here dur
ing the past season by Don Mills
of Charleston, under lease to An

Farley during the past season, is

Disastrous Fire Averted
What could have been a disas-1
trous fire was narrowly averted
Saturday evening at the E. K.
Wood Lumber company sawmill
in Reedsport, when a watchman
saw smoke coming from under
the dock near the planing mill
when the mill was not in opera
tion.
Quick action on the part of the
Reedsport volunteer fire depart
ment is credited witn saving at
least part of the buildings in the
mill yard, and possibly the dry
kiln and mill itself. A hard wind
was blowing when' the fire start
ed, presumably from a sparK
from the mill's burner.
Cattle Thieves Active
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dailey of
Smith river were business visitors
in Reedsport Tuesday. They re
port cattle thieves active on the
north fork of Smith river, with
several hundred dollars worth of
stock having been taken from the
Wroe Brothers ranch recently.
State and county officers are re
portedly working on the case.
