July 12, 1949. Previously adver
tised to be sold at this time were
twelve parcels of O. & C. timber
carrying a volume of 48,908,000
board feet of timber with an ap
praised value of $417,565.50.
Eleven of the parcels will be
offered for sale by sealed bids on
July 12, 1949 at the regional ad
ministrator's office In Portland.

Milk In Portland
PORTLAND, June 23. (JP)
Portland's milk won a grade A
rating in the first complete post
war test by the U. S. Public
Health Service.
Dr. Thomas L. Meador. citv
health officer, announced the re
sult of the test. He said pasteur
ized milk, which constitutes 99.2
per cent of the milk sold here, was
rated at 93.8 "er cent. Raw milk
was rated at 90.9 per cent.

S. P. Won't Pay Part For
Shifting Salem Tracks
SALEM, June 23. UF South
ern Pacific railroad officials
won't pay any part of the cost of
moving their railroad tracks in
Salem.
They told members of the Sa
lem Planning Commission that If
any changes are made, the city or
state would have to pay.
The commission wants'the com
pany's main line either put in a
tunnel or in a ditch. The tracks
now cut the city in two.

Sawmill At Reedsport
Undergoing Alterations
Extensive repairs and altera
tions are being made in the boiler
room at the E. K. Wood Lumber
Company sawmill in Reedsport
during the two - week holiday
which started Friday night.
In the mill itself, the founda
tions of the log deck are being
renewed, necessitating the re
moval of considerable equipment.
Among the jobs being done in the
boiler room is the replacing of
the automatic sprinkling system.
Harry Vincent of Oakland, Cal.,
where the head office of the E.
K. Wood Lumber Co. is located,
is spending-a week in Reedsport
superintending some of the re
pairs being made.
He was accompanied to Reeds
port by Mrs. Vincent and their
granddaughter and a friend of
the latter. They are occupying the
living quarters over the new of
fice building.
School Director Is

Elmer Wheaton, one of the own
ers of Umpqua Buildings Supply
Co., In Reedsport, was elected to
the board of School District No.
105 in the Monday night election.
Wheaton replaces Herman Husen,
who refused to accept the posi
tion for another term.

fred Shlrtcliff, who will be chair
man for the next "ear, and E.
E. Morris. Mrs. Edith Gibbons is
clerk.

ing was woefully light, as usual.
