'wis.- .;- tvi Truman Scores 'Ruthless' Real Estate Lobby WASHINGTON, June 18. UP) Prejident Truman today de nounced the real estate lobby as a "little group of ruthless men" who are putting out "propagan da" against public housing ana slum clearance legislation. The President sent to House Speaker Rayburn a 4,000-word plea for passage of the legislation as a step which will "greatly pro mote the general welfare." He said that when House mem bers vote on this legislation next week "they should be aware of the false and misleading nature" or propaganda against it. Mr. Truman said he has been shocked in recent days at the "extra-ordinary propaganda cam paign that has been unleashed against the bill by the real estate lobby." "I do not recall ever having wit nessed," he added, "a more de liberate campaign of misrepresen tation and distortion against leg. islation of such crucial impor tance to the public welfare." The fact is, Mr. Truman de clared, that the legislation would be "of real benefit to those real estate interests that now oppose its enactment." "To strengthen the whole fab ric of our American society is to strengthen all its several parts." The president said most people engaged in the real estate bus iness and the home building in dustry are decent, respectable, honorable citizens. "But," he said, "there is a lit tle group of ruthless men, claim ing to speak for the members of these industries, who spend their time attempting to block progres sive housing legislation. By let ters, circulars, and paid advertise ments, thoy continue to spread their misstatements, hoping that people will eventually accept them as true." RANDOM SHOT; 90 DAYS CHESTER, Pa.
