CWA Plans To Strike If Necessary To Gain Bell System Recognition CHICAGO, June 17. Km The CIO Communications Work ers of America announced today a campaign for recognition by the Bell Telephone System, to be backed by a nation-wide strike, if necessary. Delegates at the CWA's third International convention approv ed a motion . instructing the Union's executive board "to take such action as may be necessary" within the next 90 days "to make effective all division contracts now being violated and dishonor ed by the companies and to re store recognition of the divisions as bargaining agents." Such action, the resolution said, may include "economic, strike, political and any other" steps. Joseph A. Beirne, president of the CWA, said that Bell Tele phone Companies have with drawn recognition from 37 of the Union's divisions since May 6 when the CWA membership voted to join the CIO. The CWA membership, claimed by officers, to number 230,000, was taken into the CIO May 9, when a charter was issued by the large congress of unions. During the present convention, the CWA affiliated with the telephone workers organizing committee, claiming a member ship of 90,000. Thus the CWA now represents a membership of 320.000 workers in the telephone industry. Blush All Over Blushing Isn't always confined to face and neck.
