Recent telephone conversations:
"I've lost my dog. Would you mind putting this on the air for
me? He's sort of a combination bulldog terrier and spitz ... but
we broke him of that. He answers to the name of Leopold."
"Is this a child's dog?"
"Well . . . no . . . he's just the family dog. Why?"
"It's Just that we'll have to charge you for a special spot an
nouncement on this . . . unless you'd care to wait and put it on the
next "Book of Bargains." program. You see, if the dog belongs
to a child in the family we'll put it on the air for free any time
it's possible."
So she bought a 30-second spot announcement and the good word
was spread via the air-waves in the search for Leopold. Whether
he was returned to his rightful home or not, can't say, 'cause we
never get the animal-interest side of these things ... but now that
summer's officially here . . now that more and more Roseburgians
take the family pooch on more frequent outings here and there . .' .
more and more of the canines are taking off into th wild blue
yonder. As a result,. KRNR is besieged by heart-rending phone calls
requesting aid. Just keep In mind that we'll have to charge you
for a spot of this kind if you're an adult . . . but Junior will get the
announcement for free! ' .
And so, reader, to tonight's programming At 7:30, KHJ

lady who asks Greg Hood to play postman and deliver a
letter to her that evening, then refuses to recognize him
when he appears at her door, becomes No. 1 murder suspect
for the latest entry from "The Casebook of Gregory Hood."

AFL Millmen, Portland,
Reject Wage Hike Offer
PORTLAND, June 15. CP)
Idle AFL millmen here have
rejected a 11 cent-an-hour wage
increase offered by Portland em
ployers. The wage dispute spread
to 40 Oregon plants April 22.
A union spokesman said mem
bers turned down the offer by a
vote of 402 to 0. The union had
asked a 171 cent an hour in
crease. The present scale ranged
from $1.45 to $1,774 an hour.
A spokesman for the employer
groups reported the wage scale
offer also included six paid holi
days if they fell during a five
day work week and a special
accident insurance and seniority
agreement.
Upstate plants were closed
after pickets appeared at a Port
land plant. Eugone workers have
since reached a separate agree
ment. '

Fugitive Not Present
SALEM, June 15. P The
case of State vs. John O. Plnson
come up for trial in Circuit
Court Tuesday, but the defendant
wasn't there.
Plnson was one of the two
convicts who sawed their way
out of the State Prison bullpen
May 30. The other convict was
William P. Benson.
Plnson was to have gone on
trial Tuesday on a charge of
arson. He was accused of being
one of several prisoners who set
fire to the prison flax plant last
year in an escape attempt.
Poilce have no clues as to
where Plnson and Benson have
gone.
Plnson Is under a life term for
murder of a state policeman at
