Lytle of Roseburg, was recently chosen to be a Thane, Sophomore men's service honor society, at Oregon State College. An article, naming ine new mem bers, appeared on the front page , of the May 27th Issue of the Ore eon ' State College newspaper, "The Barometer.'' The Thanes will begin their year of duty next fall during freshman week. . MEETS AT POTLUCK LUNCHEON ON FRIDAY Riversdale Home Economics Club met Friday at a 1 o'clock polluck luncheon at the home of Mrs. T. R. Burr. Covers were placed for Mrs. Bert Kruse, Mrs. C. T. Tipton, Mrs. Glenn Cox, Mrs. E. G. Trozelle, Mrs. W. O.' Beckwith, Mrs. Eldon Ogle, Mrs. Lester Spencer, Mrs. C. M. Stark, Mrs. W. E. Ott, Mrs. Carl Schm!dtMrs. E. G. Cloake, Mrs. James. Daugherty, Mrs. Charles Healy 'Mrs. William Hackney, Mrs. Robert Harmon, Mrs. Rose Gobervllli and the hostess, Mrs. Burr. Mrs. Stark spoke on the June 3rd meeting, which will feature the 4-H club leader, Frank Bor stal. Children of the community, Grangers and friends are In vited. Plans were also completed for the Father's Day meeting to be held June IT. The next meeting wHJ be held at a potluck luncheon June 10 at the home of Mrs. Graham ' Evrans. W. 8. OF C. 8. HAS INTERESTING MEETING The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service held Its regular meeting and potluck dinner on Thursday in the basement of the Sutherlin Methodist Church with Mrs. Dwight Beck and Mrs. Fred Rietmann as hostesses. Th? long tables were very attractive wilh low centerpieces of spring flowers. At 2 o'clock the meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Douglas Geddes. Mrs. George Pogue had charge of the devo tionals and the main business centered about the serving of the Junior-Senior banquet. Most of the day was spent In house cleaning and quilting, Those present to enjoy the bountiful dinner and the after noon meeting were: Mrs. Or ville French, Mrs. Lenore Venza, Mrs. Jesse Cooper, Mrs. C. PINK AND BLUE 8HOWER 18 GIVEN The Rcbekah Lodge of Glen dale gave a pink and blue show er Thursday for two of its mem bers, Mrs. June Miller and Mrs. Jean Gaedeke. Two baby bug gies, decorated with pink and white paper, were filled with gifts and wheeled Into view afler the regular meeting was closed. The F. L. girls also presented their president. Mrs. June Mil ler, wllh a high chair. Refresh ments were appropriate to the occasion. An important item of business In the early part of the meeting was the District Rehekah Con vention which will be held In Glendale In the late summer. MR. AND MRS. LEE ENTERTAIN AT DINNER Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Lee gra ciously entertained at a dinner at their home In Scotts Valley Sunday having as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Walt Lunney, Mrs. Lambdin Sr., Miss Beverley Lun ney, Mrs. Joe Marsh and two children of Drain and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lambdin of Yoncalia. FIRST MAN GRADUATED FROM WOMEN'S COLLEGE Richard Logan (center) a married World War II veteran of Bryn Mawr, Pa., hat hit mortar board adjusted by five "fellow" girl students at 60-year-old Bryn Mawr College shortly before he became the first man ever to be graduated from the school. Logan, officials explained, studied for his AB degree under the Gl bill after the government asked women's colleges to accept male students because of capacity enrollments in other schools. FAIR OAKS GRANGE HAS MEETING TUESDAY The Fair Oaks Grange met Tuesday evening for the first session in' the new community hall (which was formerly the schoolhouse). Harry Norton, mas ter, presided. The women of the grange served a potluck din ner. Plans were made for taking part in the Timber Days parade. Community service projects were also discussed. Mrs. Orville Smith was voted Into membership by demit. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Norton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frotscher, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Adams, Viola Hazelett, Harry Read, Maggie Francis, Mabel Crousa, Mr. and Mrs. Tester Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Smith and Donnie; Bill and Marda Smith, Nickie and Carmel Norton, Evelyn and Samuel Frot scher, Joan Adams, Vonnie Hib- bard and Herb Hibbard. INTER-SE STUDY CLUB TO ENTERTAIN FAMILIES AT PICNIC SATURDAY Members and associate mem bers of the Inter-Se Study Club will entertain their families at a delightful picnic supper Satur day evening, June 4, at the sum mer home of Mr. and Mrs. E. The Yoncalia B.P.W. Club held its meeting at the City Hall last Thursday. The hall was decorat ed with bouquets of roses and small vases of Cecil Brunner roses centered the serving tables. Following the business ses sion, reports were given of the State Convention held in Salem recently by President Lavada Crawford, and the two dele gates, Kittie Jobe and Jesse Hum mell. ; Several guests were present including Mrs. Earl Brant, Mrs. Jack Taylor, Mrs. Dora Ben ner and Mrs. Cecil Hamilton. Members present were Mesdames Lavada Crawford, Ralph Latham, Walt Lunney, George Kremkau, Bob Lambdin, Louise Snider, Harry Abbott, Russell Scott, Orlo Thomas, Jean Cowan; Kittie Jobe, Clifford Emory, Karl Hum mell, Miss Phyllis Wright and Miss Pauline Putman. PAUL REEVES- IS HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Many friends gathered at the Paul Reeves home recently in .the Elkhead district to help him celebrate his birthday. A beauti ful birthday cake, lighted with candles was a gift of Mrs. Nim ocks. Games were played and music was furnished by Dave Rust and Delmar Record.
