For Seven Home Extension Meets Topics for seven horr.e exten sion unit meetings and several district meetings were chosen by unit representatives Friday, Mav 27. The delegates met at the Knights of Pythias Hall In Rose burg to select the 1949-50 home extension program. Prior to the meeting Friday, votes for subjects which interest ed the groups were taken in each unit in the county during March and April. These votes were tab ulated and the final selection was made by the delegates. Miss Frances Clinton, state agent, home economics extension, from Oregon State College, was in Roseburg to help with the meet ing and explain the content of the projects. Subjects chosen for unit meet ings are care of the skin, sewing short cuts, freezing prepared foods, making lampsnades. land scaping home grounds, textile fiainting, family business and the aw. Meetings will be held month ly from Oct., 1949 through May, 1950. Demonstrations for each month are not yet scheduled. Three of the unit meeting dem onstrations will be conducted by project leaders from among the unit membership and four will he conducted by Cortnne McTag gart, county extension agent, home economics. Special meetings chosen by the group are district meetings on jf making dress forms and a series Tof meetings to train recreation leaders from any organization wishing to send representatives. There may also be a meeting with a specialist on the subject of buying or building freezer lockers. A training meeting In the fall will be held for leaders from each unit on the subject of gift wrap ping. These leaders will then be prepared to give a short demon stration of seasonal gift wrap ping at the start of each home extension meeting throughout the year. The county committee makes plans lor county wide meetings, i such as unit officers training and Homemaker's Festival. They con duct county home extension busi ness and act as a policy mak ing group. Mrs. A. H. Monson, Scottsburg, was reelected to committee mem bership. New members chosen were Mrs. Cecil Hartford. Oak land, Mrs. Henry Beckley, Elkton, and Mrs. A. J. Standley, Rivers dale. Other members now serving on the committee are Mrs. Earl 01 livant. Brockway, Mrs. Ray Doer ner, Melrose, and Mrs. Jack Par rott, Camas Valley. New members were elected to complete the term of Mrs. Ernest Voorhis, Look ingglass, who resigned, and to re place Mrs. Art Rvchard, Yoncalla, and Mrs. Paul Newman, Azalea, whose terms expired. INSTALL RANGE FINDER NEWPORT, May 31. (V) A new Civil Aeronautics Adminis tration range finding station, to provide navigational aid for both planes and ocean vessels, is be ing installed here. The stalion was installed at the Newport airport by the CAA. as part of a program to have range finding stations all along the Pacific Coast. Calibration tests are now being conducttd.
