C, that the commission's Chicago laboratory is unable to account for about one-fourth of an ounce of uranium-235. But the commission said It did not believe the atomic material had been "stolen or lost." W ATKINS (AP Special Washington Service) WASHINGTON, May 31. 11') Two Pacific Northwest Sen alors Thursday urged a House Committee to approve the pro posed coordinated $3,000,000,000 Elan to develop the Columbia asln in the Pacific Northwest. Senator! Morse (R-Ore) and Magnuson (D-Wash) spoke or the plan agreed to by the Army Engineers and the Reclamation Bureau. Magnuson, however, called at' lentlon to the administration's bill to set up a Columbia Valley Administration to handle all de velopment in the area. He said Ills approval of the coordinated plan is not to be construed as im plying that it is a satisfactory substitute for the Columbia Val ley Administration, Morse did not mention the ad ministration bill as he called for Immediate approval of the coordi nated plan by Congress. Expressing belief the people of the Northwest area should have an opportunity to voice their view on the proposad CVA, Magnuson said he inlands to "exert every Influence I have lo insure that hearings are held at appropriate places in the Columbia Valley." "In my judgment," he said, "consideration of the Columbia Valley Administration bills should not delay action by your Commit tee and the Congress on the co ordinated report. Morse told the House Commit tee: "I consider that the proposed plan Is urgently needed at this time to relieve the flood situation in Ihe Columbia River Basin, and that it affords a sound frame work for long-range development of the basin. "The early accomplishment of the work provided by Ihe plan will permit the realization of great benelils In this river basin. "I am in full accord with the recommended plan of the im provement and I believe that it should be approved by Congress so that it may be initiated with out ueiay." Ripley Of 'Believe It Or Not' Diet NEW YORK, May 31. (B Robert L. Ripley, cartoonist of "Believe It or Not" fame, died Friday. His death occurred at the Hark ness Pavilion of the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Cente.-, where he was admitted after a brief illness. He was 55 years old. Born at Santa Rosa, Calif., on Christmas day, 1H93, Ripley start ed drawing during schooldays and sold his first commercial drawings to the old Lift Maga zine when he was 14 years old. He was paid $8 for it. At one time a nationwide sur vey was said to have showed that his "Believe It Or Not" cartoon was the greatest reader-inlerest feature appearing in newspapers.
