I. insurance jeopardizes the cover age of hundreds of Northwest veterans every month, Clifford Fields, veterans administration representative for this area, com mented today. During one month, the VA s dis trict office in Seattle counted 260 checks, money orders and postal notes that could not be cashed, although the Northwest ex-GIs who sent them intended them for insurance. Many checks, Fields explained, were not signed. Others were made payable to firms and groups which have no connection with the VA. One veteran sent a check intended to pay his grocery bill; no doubt the grocer got the in surance check. These are common errors. The VA tries to clear up such mis takes Immediately, but if pay ments come in shortly before the 31-day grace period expires,- the insurance may lapse, Fields warned. Veterans are advised to use the yellow payment envelopes when paying on their insurance. Checks, money orders or postal notes should be made payable to the Treasurer of the United States and signed, Fields said. visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford McKay, during their vacation.
