Concrete Firm's
Aid Cut Cost Of
Swimming Pool
The ability to receive mixed
concrete deliveries when needed
contributed largely to saving of
cost and speeding work on the
Roseburg Municipal Swimming
Pool, stated M. W. Slankard,
speaking briefly at the Roseburg
Lions Club Thursday night.
The concrete was delivered by
Pre-Mix Concrete, Inc., at cost,
and was always brought Imme
diately upon call, said Slankard.
He praised the Lions Club for
its part in promoting tne pool
development, especially in the
final campaign to raise funds for
the dressing room.
He is supervising decorations
lor the pool today, and prom
ised some surprise oddities to
add color to tne uedicauon com
mittee's program. Ralph Turner,
Lions Club representative on the
Committee, briefly discussed the
dedication plans.
The club voted to hold a Dutch
lunch at the Fairgrounds Thurs
day, June 9, in order to complete
arrangements for the club's food
and soft drink concession for the
Sheriff's Posse Rodeo June 17,
18 and 19.

Defendants Win Verdict
In Suit Involving Note
Judgment for the defendants,
Clyde Lewis and Bertha E. Du
bell, was returned Thursday by a
jury of 12 in a suit brought by
led Rogoway to collect on a
$1,700 note. The defense asserted
the note had been signed follow
ing false representations and
threats on the part of the plain
tiff, '"he difficulty rose out of a
house sale by the Dubells to Rogo
way.
Continuing on trial before Jury
today is a suit brought by Ernest

the times, the local office of
California-Pacific Utilities Com
pany will remain closed on Satur
days, commencing June 4.
A. D. Parr, local manager,
stated that this arrangement is
being put Into effect as nart

shorten the working hours of em
ployes and allow them the two
day weekend free from business
cares. Mr. Parr stated that any
emergency calls will be handled
expeditiously at any time outside
of the new office hours. Emer

Bill To Be Introduced
WASHINGTON, May 27 VP)
Rep. Vinson (D-Ca) said Thurs
day a new version of the mili
tary pay bill suddenly shelved
by the House Tuesday will be
"back on the floor in two weeks
anri It will pass."
The original bill was pro
nounced dead by Rep. Kilday
(D-Tex) after he had failed to
get it past the House. Kilday led
the floor fight for the measure.
But Vinson, chairman of the
House Armed Services Commit
tee, told reporters: "never mind
what he said. We'll bring it back
rifjht away and I think we'll
bring back a good bill."
Vinson said lhat in its new
form the bill will carry a little
less money for the generals than
the original proposal did, and also
offer a small raise for the re
cruits. Otherwise, he said, it
will be about the same.
