vention of the Oregon Federation
of Business and Professional
Women's clubs held In Salem
May 13, 14, 15, I he Yoncalla B.
P. W. was awarded a Special
Citation for its book entry.
Scrapbooks of activities of the
various clubf, throughout the
state, which formed the Slale
Federation, are compiled during
the club year, and displayed and
judged at the Slate Convention
each year.
As one of the "Baby Clubs"
of the State Federation, having
only received their charter and
official recognition from the
State and National Federation
this past January, .Yoncalla 15.

A dinner was given Tuesday
evening at Carl's Haven honor
ing the graduates of the Garden
Valley School. Attending were:

Teddy Hess, John Webber, Judy
Pon and Gifford Evans, and the

STUDY CLUB HAS
LAST MEETING OF YEAR
The last meeting of the Yon
calla Women's Study Club was
held Thursday afternoon in the
Kpworth Hall of the Yoncalla
Methodist Church. The last meet
ing Is also commemorated as
Senior Day, as the Senior girls
and their mothers are guests
oi tne club on that day.
Delicious luncheon was served
to ten senior girls and their moth
ers and 20 club members. The
social committee had charge of
I lie neautllul decorations using
tne class colors red and wnite,
wilh flowers on the table, white
snapdragons and red roses. The
senior girls were presented with
lovely red and while carnation
corsages, and welcomed to the
meeting by the president, Mrs
Ida Pinkston, Miss Elva Arnold
gave a response for the class
Following the luncheon a short
program was enjoyed. Group
singing of the Oregon Slale song,
and reading the club Collect by
Mrs. nice, invocalion by Mrs,
Reeves, chaplain, was followed
by two piano solos by Molly
Kingery. A very interesting talk
on color In the home was given
ny flirs. Art Kuchard. Mrs. Les
lie Chapman gave a very in
teresting travelogue.
Mrs. Pinkston, retiring presi
dent, was presented with a gift
a book entitled "My House in
Yours," by Elsa Larralds. Mrs.
Dare Kingery Installed the fol
lowing new officers into their
respective stations; president for

MOVIES TO BE SHOWN

GRANGE FRIDAY NIGHT
The Lookingglass Grange will
show movies in the hail at 8
o'clock Friday night, May 27.
The public is invited. Admission
will be charged and the money
taken in will be used for the
benefit of the newly formed
grange.
There will be animated car
toons and the feature movie will
be Bobby Brcen in "Rainbow

AFFAIR ON BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Emma Record was pleas
antly surprised Friday evening
when a group of friends and rela
tives gathered at the Elkhead
Community Hall to celebrate her
birthday. A potluck dinner was
served at 7 o'clock with three
large birthday cakes gracing the
center of the long table. Mrs.
record received many beautiful
gifts from her friends.
Following the dinner, old time
dancing was enjoyed, with mu

in Eugene Saturday was attend

view. The tri state field director, Mrs.
Catherine Bowen, of Seattle, was

Jon Cowan celebrated his
birthday Friday afternoon with
a parly for a group of his friends.
After a delicious lunch of Ice
cream and cake the little guests
enjoyed the show at the Eagle
Theater. Those attending were

Bruce Timmons, Leroy Vian, Bar
ry Kremkau and Jon Cowan.
There were more than eight
million volumes and pamphlets
in the Library of Congress at
the close ot 1M47.

murder Tuesday by an all-woman

Lloyd E. Sampsel, 48, "that 12

Sampsel, who shot and killed a
