Reedsport High seniors spent
last weekend at McCredie Hot
Springs on the Willamette River
on their annual "sneak dav.
which this year became two
"sneak" days. They were accom
panied by Jack Klug, school su
perintendent and senior class ad
visor. An enjoyable time was re
ported.
Fishermen Happy
The arrival of Capt. E. J. Elia
son and his trolling boal, El
Capilan, on Ihe Umpqua River
from his home port at Newport
has brought encouragement to
members of the local trolling
fleet and fishermen from the
north who are here for the
spring fishing.
For the past few years, fairly
heavy runs of fish have made
their appearance following his
arrival. The fishermen hope "his
tory will repeat itself" again
I his season.
Attend Grand Lodge
Local Rehekah and Odd Fellow
lodge members attended the an
nual Grand Lodge meeting in
North Bend this week. Gardiner
Lodge 132, I.O.O.F., of Gardiner,
serving both that town and Reeds
port, conferred the first degree
before Grand Lodge delegates.
Earl Murphey of Reedsport, past
grand of Gardiner Lodge, was
ir charge.
Girls League Tea
Reedsport High Girls League
members held a lea in the school
auditorium Wednesday afternoon
honoring their mothers, and
members of Ihe Incoming high
school class were guesls. A style
show was given by the home
economics class students, and a
program of musical numbers, In
cluding band music, provided the
entertainment.
Parent Teachers Meet
Reedsport P.-T. A. met Friday,
May 20 at 3 p.m. at the High
School gymnasium, and the an
nual 4-H Club program was held
at that time with each 4-H Club
in Reedsport participating. In
stallation of officers for the en
suing year was also held.

Rainbow for Girls, of Gardiner
elected the following new offi
cers at the last regular meeling,

New Business Building
Rising At Reedsport
Construction has been started
by Nelson Hogan, pioneer Reeds
port business man, on his new
business building on Fir Avenue,
across the street from the Reeds
port post office and adjacent to
the Schneider building.
The new structure will have
only one story and will be built
of pumice stone blocks with a ce
ment floor. It will be 50 feet wide
and SO feet long, and have room
for two. business locations. One
will be occupied by the State Liq.
uor store, according to .Ar. Ho
gan, with no occupancy an
nounced for the other room.
The construction firm of An
derson & Morris will assist in put
ting up the building, but Mr. Ho
gan plans on doing much of the
work himself.
Forms are being put in now for
the foundation, and U Is hoped
to have this work done by the
time the Umpqua River Naviga
tion Company has its new redi
mix concrete plant in operation,
so that the foundation and floors
can be poured.
Mr. Hogan was owner and man
ager of the Reedsport Garage un
til he sold that business a few
years ago.

Riddle Will Have
Modern School
Bids are to be Invited eariy
next week for construction of the
first wing of a new elementary
school at Riddle. Robert A. Mil
ler of Portland is the architect.
The building will be unique in
construction and planning. All
classrooms will have north light
with window walls on the north
side with a large overhanging
roof. Ceilings will be sloped in
from the outside. Construction
will be semi-firenroof with pum
ice block and brick walls and
partitions, concrete slab
accoustical ceilings and
roof framing. The primary wing
will have complete facilities in
each classroom, toilet for boys,
toilet for girls, wardrobes, drink
ing fountain, etc.
