Only the "Cisco Kid" would have the nerve to walk Into the
Ghost Dance of the Kiowas , . . and he comes up with some sur
prising discoveries during the dramatization of "The Cisco Kid and
the Ghost Dance of the Kiowas" tonight at 7:30. At 8 tonight,
"Straight Arrow" becomes involved in a feud between two Indian
tribes, but, thanks to some quick thinking and action on his part,
war is avoided during the episode entitled "Drumbeat." "Jhn Steele,
Adventurer" will be heard tonight at 10:30 . . . having missed his
calling last Tuesday night when General Lucius Clay had top priority
on that time with his report to the nation.
You wouldn't think a five-minute newt summary would
require nine hours of preparation . . would you? Don't
go thinking this is a read-in remark regarding one of
KSNR'i own newest nose analysts. . . , It's Bill Henry,
(Mutual-Don Lee, 6:55 to 7 p. m. week-days) who did his
1,400th consecutive broadcast last Friday, May 13. He de
votes a nine-hour working day to preparing approximately
600 words of news soript. Thought he Just ripped something
from the news wire at the last minute, didn't you? He
spends about two hours each day collating the various news
notes he picks up on his dally rounds of Washington offices.
The remaining five hours he's on the telephone talking to
officials, or visiting them In their offices. He spends all this
time covering his "beat," despite the fact that he's a veteran
of forty years experience in news gathering. "I'd rather get
my own Story," Bill explains, "than depend on the other
fellow's version."
Tomorrow morning at 11:30, a resume of the year-long Berlin
airlift operation, based on documentary interviews made throughout
the period by the Air Force's radio reporter, will be featured on "The
Air Force Hour." At 7:30 tomorrow night, Senator Leverett Salton
stall (R.) of Massachusettes will be interviewed on the regular

President Of
Brazil Speaks To
U. S. Congress
WASHINGTON, May 19.-OP)
Brazilian President Eurico
Dutra told Congress today that
the "perfect" friendship of Bra
zil and the United States is a
major prop to Western Hemi
sphere solidarity.
Addressing a joint session of
the Senate and House, he de
clared that the 120-vear-nlrt tips
between the two nations are
"founded upon their identity of
purposes and harmony of inter
ests." And he predicted they will
become ever stronger. '
In the international field,
Dutra said, "this rare example of
fraternal association" is "the
greatest guarantee of good un
derstanding and comprehension
among other sister nations in this
hemisphere."
He forecast that the plaudits
he has received since his arrival
yesterday on a state visit will be
deeply felt in Brazil, "whose peo
ple are ever sensitive to manifes
tations of regard from this great
nation, held by them in such high
esteem."
Dutra spoke in Portuguese
Fri., Moy 20, 1949 The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore. S
from the speaker's rostrum of
the House.
"The Democracy which flour
ishes with so much vigor In this
country Is one of the signs of
the high degree of civilization
which you have achieved and In
which respect for the law and for
the rihgts of others is a main fac
tor," he said. 1

On CVA Proposal
Asked By Truman
WASHINGTON, May 19.-UP)
President Truman has asKea
the chairman of the Senate and
House Public Works Committee
tp arrange hearings quickly on
the administration's bill to create
a Columbia Valley Administra
tion. Chairman Whittlngton (D..
Miss.) ol the House Committee
said the President made the re
quest to him and Senator Chavez
(D.-Mex.) of the Senate Commit
tee at a White House Conference.
He said they told the President
they would arrange hearings as
quickly as possible.
Meantime, Rep. Sanborn (R.
Ida.) said that the President has
stopped to play politics and pull
patronage over an issue that is
so serious It will affect the future
of the entire Pacific Northwest."
"President Truman called Rep.
Whittlngton, who has Indicated
he is not sympathetic to valley
authorities, down to the White
House to put pressure on him to
turn a public works hearing of
the House Into a CVA hearing,"
he said, in a statement.
"It Is to be assumed from re
ports that are current In Wash
ington that certain Interior De
partment witnesses will suggest
there is no need for hearings on
flood control prolects as set by
the corps of eneineeds, because
they have the CVA plan already
set up."
