Chairman David E. Lilenthal of the Atomic Energy Commission told senators today the president of the National Research Coun cil has agreed that a non-Communist affidavit should be required from candidates for atomic fel lowships. Hp made the statement to a Senate Appropriations Subcom mittee which is considering t. : Commission's request for $1,090, 000,000 in funds for the 12 months beginning next July 1. The fellowships are awards given to talented students to help them pursue studies In scientific fields. A furore has been stirred in Congress by disclosure that a $l,600-a year fellowship has been given Hans Freistadt, an avowed Communist who is a student of Emberzlement Charged To Ex-Alaska Treasurer JUNEAU, Rlaska, May 20. M Oscar G. Olson, former terri torial treasurer, waived prelimin ary hearing yesterday when ar raigned on a charge of embezzle ment. He is accused of misappropri ating T23.000 in territorial funds. Olson, who resigned last week, was bound over to the grand jury. He is at liberty under bond of $10,000. I " nuclear physics at the University of North Carolina.
