HOME EXTEN8ION UNIT HAS FINE MEETING The Rice Valley-Elkhead Home extension unit neia a very mier- esling meeting Friday at the Rice Valley hall. An all-day afair was held with a covered-dish lunch eon at noon. , Mrs. Corinne McTaggart, coun ty leader, had charge of the topic, "Giving home sewing a profes sional look." Officers elecled for the coming year included: Mrs. Cecil Hart ford, chairman; Mrs. Churchill, vice-chairman, and Mrs. Jack Taylor, secretary-treasurer. A delicious fried chicken dinner was served after which the guests attended the dance at the Elkhend grange hall. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. W. WINCHESTER COMMUNITY CLUB BOX 80CIAL HELD ' The Winchester Community Club held an enjoyable box social at the clubhouse Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stritz- ke, Mis. Raymond Miller and Mrs. Annie Collcy as host and hostesses. Games were played and the boxes were auctioned off. with proceeds being added to the build ing fund. Men and their families work ing on the construction of the club house Sunday, gnthered for a pot luck dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Rartlett. TEA AND PROGRAM IS CHARMING AFFAIR Mrs. Royal Abeene Jr., and her Bible School Class of Inter mediate Girls, entertained at a Mother's Day Tea, in the East Room of the Sutherlln Christian Church, Saturday. Invited guests were the mothers of the girls, and women of the church. As each guest entered, she was presented with a rose and a pro gram of the entertainment: Piano Prelude, Mrs. Hugh Mad dox; Reading, Myldred Chester; Scripture Proverbs 31: 10-31, Barbara Van Komen; 'Duet, Jackie and Katy Kennedy, "My Mother's Bible"; Accordion Solo, Sally Thompson; Flannelgraph Story, "Mothers," Katy Kennedy, Edna Mae Carter, Harriet Scrog gins, Margie Davey; Solo, Donna Hall. "MO-T-H-E-R," and group singing of "Faith of Our Moth ers?' The serving table was covered with a lace cloth centered with a basket of Iris. Flowers were arranged about the room. A long table in the background held two miniature May poles, flanked by candles and flowers. Refreshments were served. Matthews and daughter, Ruth Simmons, were hostesses to the Melrose Home Economics club Wednesday at the home of Nellie Meyers. The business meeting was conducted by chairman, Nettle Woodruff. The year book committee gave a favorable report and discussed the program for the remainder of the year. It was voted to make up a box of toys and useful articles for European children, and will be packed ready to send at the next club meeting. Members are re quested to bring articles for the box at that time. Roll call was held, the topic being "Something I plan to ac complish this year." A flower identification game was enjoyed and the prize was won by Margaret Aydelott. Amy Matthews was honored on her birthday anniversary by a handkerchief and card shower, and presented with a decorated cake on a musical cake plate. A plant exchange was held at the meeting's close. BRIDGE CLUB IS ENTERTAINED SUNDAY Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barker entertained the Sutherlin Bridge Club at a charming seven o'clock buffet supper Sunday evening at their home on East Fourth Ave nue. The lace-covered table was centered with a lovely bouquet of spring flowers. Covers were placed for: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stearns, Mr. and Mrs. Rolstyn Bridges, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Holgate, Mr. and Mrs.. Howard Wahl, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyal Stearns and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Barker. Contract bridge was in play during the pleasant evening hours with Howard Wahl and Mrs. Holgate, winning high score and Harry Stearns and Mrs. Wahl, second high. JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB ANNUAL SPRING DANCE TO BE HELD SATURDAY The annual spring dance of the Roseburg Junior Woman's Club will be an event of Satur day night, May 21, at nine o'clocK at the Roseburg Country Club for all members and their invited guests. Miss Betty Jewel is general chairman of the affair and is be ing assisted by Mrs. Hazel Scott, Mrs. George Crocker and Miss Dorothy Daracunas. The music will be in charge of Mrs. Allena Rose and tickets are in charge of Mrs. Ralph Ohman. Tickets are now on sale at Lawson's Jewelry store. RICE VALLEY GRANGE HOLDS MEETING TUESDAY Rice Valley Grange met Tues day evening at the hall. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Churchill, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Churchill, Mrs. Mildred Churchill, Mr. and Mrs. Al Fonken, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Emerson, Mr. and Mrs. William Castor, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Rice and J. G. Wales. The next meeting will be al the hall Tuesday evening, May 24th. TOWN AND COUNTRY CLUB HOLDS MEETING The Yoncalla Town and Coun try Club met at the home of Mrs. John Lewey Wednesday after noon. A business meeting fol lowed the potluck luncheon. Ten dollars was given to Mrs. Hazel Wright towards a 4-H club scholarship and twenty-one dol lars, made at the recent food sale was turned over to Mrs. Jean Cowan for the Cancer Fund. Members present were Mrs. Russell Loyd, Mrs. LeRoy Han son and son Loyal; Mrs. Clyde Shirley and daughter Bonnie; Mrs. Walter - Lunney, Beth Koepke.
