Although traffic volumes fall off after dark, figures compiled by Secretary of State Newbry show that 118 fatal crashes on rural highways took place at night last year to top the 115 oc curring in daylight traffic. The record also shows that ex cessive speed is the largest con tributing factor to all accidents in rural locations. "These facts should be known by all vacationists and weekend drivers who find it necessary to be on the road after dark," New bry said. "It's apparent that the few minutes of time gained by driving faster than your head light range permits is not worth the risk." A safe speed for after-dark highway driving, the secretary pointed out, is one that will allow a safe stop wtihin the distance il luminated by your car's headlights. BIG RANCH SOLD IONE, May 17.
