Paratroopers and neu- copters trough the pair out. VNEWS FROM REEDSPORT y . . Radio Station Secures Site; Mrs, Slonecker Dies; Fleet Pays Visit By S. S. SMILEY Newh-Hevie.v l orr-;. tondent At the monthly meeting of the Reedsport City Council Monday night, lots 1 and 2, block 93, were sold to the promoters of a radio broadcasting station here for $150 each. Discussion was held regarding the large commercial signs along Highway 101, that block off visi bility of some local businesses. It was decided to ask owners of these signs to move them back farther from the highway. The Reedsport Packing Co. was notified that the two waterfront lots they had leased from the city could not be available after June 30. The council has tentative plans to fill these two lots, and install a place where small boats can be launched and re loaded. At the request of garden own ers, it was voted to strictly en force the ordinance against dogs being allowed to run at large dur ing the summer months. A rental of $7.50 a night will be charged anyone desiring to rent the city hall for meetings. Block 5 was set aside for use as a city park, with the Reeds port Garden Club to be asked to supervise improvements on it. An easement was granted the Central Lincoln P. U. D. for their tower on the hill back of town. Cunningham and Associates jf Portland will supervise work on the Wade's Flat sewer system, as some corr plaint had been made on the preliminary work done by Engineer Buckingham of Coos Bay. Funeral Services Held Funeral services were held In Reedsport Saturday for Mrs. Mary Slonecker of Tidewater, near Waklport, where she has been living with her son, Chester Slonecker. Mrs. Slonpcker, a Gold Star Mother of World War I, was a pioneer resident of the Five Mile district, north of Gardiner, where she resided for many years. Her son Wilbur, died in France dur ing World War I. She Is survived by two daugh ters, Mrs. Conrad Townsend, Gardiner, and Mrs. Dessie Dailey, Florence; four sons,' Charles of Gardiner, Roy of Florence, Ned of Powers and Chester of Tide water, besides several grandchil dren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Slonecker was born In Freeport, Ohio, Sept. 30, 1863, and died May 11, in her flower gar den at her son's home at Tide water, where her body was found, after she had apparently been dead about two hours. Interment was in the Gardiner Masonic Cemetery. Fishing Fleet Visits A fleet of more than a dozen outside trolling boats came to Reedsport Wednesday, making a beautiful display as thev came up the river through the high way and railroad bridges to moor at local fish plants and the Port Dock. This report proved incorrect, although fairly good catches had been made by a few local boats working out of this harbor. Additional boats of this north ern fleet tied at Winchester Bay, and did not come up the river. Budget Drawn Up The Reedsport City Council and members of the budget commit tee met in the city hall Wednes day night, and worked out a pro posed budget for the coming fis cal year. As proposed, the budget items will be: General fund, $45, 844; water fund, $49,750; land board, $9,500; building fund, $5,- 500; post-war projects, $3,000; fi nancial reserve, $4,350; state tax street fund, $10,000; community building, $30,000. Total budget is $157,944. MILL REPORTED CLOSED EUGENE, May 14. Sour ces at Mapleton have reported that 250 men were laid oft at the U. S. Plywood Mill and that the entire logging crew of the Siuslaw Forest Products Co. were dismissed this week. Also closed was the smaller Cope Creek Log ging Co.
